3.5* - A satisfying mystery.

I have been reading this book on and off since Easter. Therefore, I think that I have lost my thirst for this book and its excitement and mystery that usually comes so easily when focusing on one read.

This book is full of red-herrings, finding yourself and emotions. Once again, Harry finds love but at the rate of the other books, will it last? Harry Bosch, a man who is living in the past, from his home to even his childhood. The Last Coyote is an entertaining read.

This book marks my first read after my essays have finished and I don't need to read another piece of academic literature until September.

Bring on the pleasure reads!

With Harry on forced leave and going through mandatory visits to a LAPD psychologist, reeling from a break up and on the brink of losing his house following the winter 94 earthquake, he decides the time has come to use his free time for a little wholly unsanctioned reopening of the unsolved murder case of his Meredith Lowe, his own mother.

Maybe the strongest of the early Bosch novels. Connelly ties up brilliantly a lot of the back story threads introduced since the first book, and manages to write a novel that's in a way entirely devoted to delving deep into Harry Bosch and his psyche, while still delivering a great if atypical police procedural along the way.

In The Last Coyote, Harry Bosch is on involuntary leave and forced to go see a counselor. With the time off, he decides to look into the case that has haunted him for years, the death of his mother. The deeper he digs, the more he finds, and then more people are killed. Harry has to risk everything to find and uncover the truth. Because everybody counts, or nobody counts.
