A surprisingly pleasant read, although I didn’t much care for the overbearing descriptions of each of the main characters perfections and ideal bodies (*insert eye roll here*). It honestly read more like a fantasy novel, given my almost non-existent knowledge of the historical context of this book, which meant I enjoyed it tremendously more than many of the Regency historical romances I’ve been reading lately. The descriptions of each place were beautiful, and I’m glad that I could Google these places and see them for myself, instead of having to rely on my unremarkable imagination or lackluster descriptions.

I enjoyed the story tremendously, though I’m not entirely sure why. It’s not generally the kind of work I’d go for, but I think there’s some magic to be found in the writing style of the author and the constant internal conflict of the characters/their novel emotions. If only they weren’t constantly describing each other’s physical features with such detail. I’m sure I laughed on numerous occasions at the more ridiculous characterizations of the thick, bulky, heavy, rock-hard, chiseled muscles that stretch for days on end, or the “visceral, cock-hardening” beauty of a woman with an incredibly powerful...mouth.

Anyways, it’s a solid read and one that I enjoyed. Would recommend to fantasy romance and historical romance lovers alike.

I enjoyed the history lesson, even if some facts were "fluffed" for the sake of the story. However, I did find myself skimming a lot when it began to feel as filler. Other than that, it was an enjoyable read. However, wouldn't say it was as amazing as a lot of other reviews state.

I did like it, but...

I was a bit frustrated at how one-sided the relationship was. To my mind, when you have a heroine essentially throwing herself at a cold hero the entire book, at some point he's got to grovel - I mean REALLY grovel - to prove he deserves someone who so adores him.

I don't feel like that happened here. There was a turning point, of course, but ... he didn't have to do much to earn her back, aside from just expressing interest, for like the first time ever.

*sigh*

DNF at 65%. I've recently started reading some historicals again and as I read this author years ago and thought I would give this one ago.

Sadly this one did nothing for me. Tor is an arrogant ass and Christina's acting a bit of a doormat. Time to go onto something else.
