For along time I tried to do things for God. But in his gentle kind way, God slowly opened my eyes to this and asked me to rest in his love. He first and foremost craves a love relationship with us before he wants to work through us. I’ve found this to be so true and the message of this book so helpful to those who are trying to work for God before expierencing his love.

While I really enjoyed this book for the love relationship aspect and gleaned other good things from it, it was hard for me to relate to certian examples or to picture the principle the author was teaching because most of his examples were centered around church planting and ministry/missionary type things.

A favorite quote:

“He will always work in you before he works through you.”

Experiencing God contains a good reminder that if you want to hear from God, you should consider how much time you spend in prayer, personal bible study, in community with devout believers, and in interpreting your life and circumstances through a lens of what God might be trying to say to you.
I wanted a book that told me exactly how to hear from God, the fool-proof method to God’s direction and guidance for any season of life - God on tap, but what I got instead was a book on spiritual discipline as an answer, with a healthy does of mystery as well.
I docked the book two stars for being really, really repetitive. I feel there could have been ten fewer chapters and you’d have gotten the same essential information delivered in a more approachable way. As it is, there are several chapters that seem like afterthoughts and several more that seem like repeats of earlier chapters. A disciplined editor could have pushed this book to be better organized and briefer.

Will finish later - had to return book to library.

I learned a lot for this book. It is not just book though. It is a study guide and it asks questions that I can go over again and again.

I think this a must read for any who is looking to discover who they are as a Christian and how they want to live their in service of God.

Originally I gave this title 3 stars. I am revising my stars to zero.

The reason I am doing so is that since reading this title, several things about my faith journey and expression have changed and I no longer subscribe to evangelical ideologies.
informative medium-paced

I personally thought the video study hat follows his book was dry, hard to follow and had nothing to do with the weekly work. You am get more out of this study if you just did the work and that is about a 30 minute commitment each day five days a week. Our discussion time on the topical subjects were always a lot more informative and engaging then what I got from the video

I think this is a great study for any Christian who wants to learn more about their walk with God and how they should be walking. Throughout this study I have experienced God like I haven't before and what a wonderful experience! This study has helped me redirect my life in a positive way and align it with God's purposes.
I didn't give it five stars just because I felt some of it was repetitive, which made some of the lessons cumbersome, but overall this was a great study and I would recommend it to anyone!

I would recommend starting with the original rather than the revised and expanded version. I was looking for a study tool, but rather found mostly stories illustrating smaller points. My husband and I learned a lot by reading this together, but I think it would've been better had we worked through the workbook style study than the expanded.

3.5 stars! Nothing SPECTACULAR, but also nothing particularly problematic either. A solid study with good reflection questions, I can see how it would be really useful for someone who has grown up in church but not really known how to grow spiritually or someone who is a new Christian.

Of note: I loved how the chapter on marriage had nothing to do with roles in a marriage and just focused on supporting your spouse's relationship with God.
