Very much enjoyed this short book. Listened to it a second time with my wife and liked it even more. Definitely recommended.

I didn't realize until the very end that it was a prequel novella to a series, which explains why it was so short. It was well written and interesting, but it fell so short as far as feeling like a complete story. The plot was lacking and didn't make any sense, however the characters made up for that. I really enjoyed the narrator, her voice is perfect for the series.

The narrator was just ok, not bad but not great either. Like other reviews said, it seems like a portion of a larger work, or maybe the cliffnotes version. It follows the pattern of Audible originals having great ideas, but failing in execution.

I don't dislike books often, but that ending killed the story for me.

Pretty breezy read/listen. Interesting worldbuilding in that it's pretty gender-reversed (warrior/sailor women who hold the de jure roles of power and men who are meant to be subservient). The explicit moral we're left with is "down with gender essentialism"

There were some worldbuilding choices that I questioned, but I suspect those are better explored in different installments of the series. Though I likely won't find out because I don't plan to continue the series.

The book is pretty explicitly meant to be more entertaining than challenging even with its diversity and alternative worldbuilding. Did the job of keeping me entertained while I did boring stuff.

I wished it was a bit longer.

Black Crow, White Snow is an audiobook filled with pirates. Lesbian pirates but pirates all the same. Since this audio was so short, and an original, I feel like there was so much happening rather quickly. Which is why I wish it was a bit longer. Then maybe I would've been able to understand everything that was happening a bit more.

In the end, I liked getting to meet all the characters in this book. I had a lot of questions about some of the things happening but maybe I can find like an ebook version of this and read it? Maybe, then I will understand everything? Who knows but I do enjoy the original books on audible. Can't wait to dive into the next one.

I just....what?! I really don't get it man.

Call me vain but I like the gender role switch

I loved the world when women were considered the strong sex, where they lead and did what needed to be done. (In this world, men were only for breeding and lesser tasks.) However, the sisterhood fractured awfully quickly in the face of strife and there wasn't enough of a plot to forward the story. I did appreciate how they two survivors found their way to respecting each other, differences, classes, and all. It just wasn't enough.
