Started slow but steadily got more interesting in the second half. Fun, mysterious story overall but had some moments of dated language and slightly difficult to understand phonetic-type spelling. If "f*** around and find out" was a plot. Quite a few characters weren't fully fleshed out (no pun intended), so kind of hard to remember who's who. The concept is really cool & feels quite modern, especially the body horror aspects and central explanation being science, rather than magic. I almost like it better at face value though, without digging into its obvious subtext.

H. G. Wells had an incredible imagination, I am thoroughly convinced of that after reading this story and he is brilliant. In this work when his "Invisible Man" relates the process of becoming invisible it's so detailed it seems highly plausible adding all the scientific explanations, I just wonder if any readers who were scientists started their own experiments. In this we also see murder, madness and plenty of mayhem. Although I have not been a big reader of sci-fi I will definitely be reading more of the genre, especially other works by this author.

The Invisible Man is the unfortunate story of a man named Griffin, a brilliant physicist ("the most gifted physicist the world has ever seen") who finds a formula to render himself invisible.
Griffin tries to hide his condition by covering his body from head to toe, but when his reclusive and odd behavior raises questions with the townsfolk, he inadvertently reveals himself and is chased away.

Throughout the book Griffin puts his trust in many people and is ultimately betrayed by all of them.
Despite being around people Griffin is isolated due to his 'condition'.

The question I have is whether it is the isolation that drives him to make bad choices, or the prospect of power. Gifted with invisibility the possibilities are endless.
Griffin takes the jump to evil quickly but will his need for companionship be his downfall.

Bottom line: it sucks being a psychotic invisible man in the winter, with no clothes :))

3.5. This is a great introduction into HG Wells writing. I very much enjoyed the prose. It wasn't my favorite of plots but definitely a classic in its own right.
