What a book! I can’t believe it took me this long to read. I cried almost through the whole book. Such a wonderful story. I can’t wait to reread it.

Not my thing. I found the mother’s attitude to the disabled son hard to stomach. It was very YA.

I almost didn't choose this. . .

This was my First Reads choice for the month and I debated for a long time. I HATED "The Lovely Bones" and dislike stories with paranormal or supernatural elements. However I'm very glad I took the chance.
Finn exists in the novel primarily as narrator of the story. This is basically a character story about integrity --when the chips are down, who are you? A terrible accident happens and in the face of nearly certain death, each person makes choices to save themselves or someone they love. No one is all good or all bad. There are acts of heroism and gut-wrenching cruelty. Each character struggles to find a way to live with their choice and the consequences of the choices made. This novel could have been written by Jodi Picoult--it has the same feel to it --taking a singular theme and exploring it from every angle. I loved this and will definitely check out anything else she has written.
