slow for anything to really develop, but the characters were all interesting and that much kept me engaged. the last 60-80 pages really had the majority of the plot and i enjoyed the ending. i have some questions still, and wish there was more justice, but i don’t doubt that it is an accurate representation of the lives of domestic workers abroad. also the little twist with a character’s appearance at the end made me audibly GASP
Not in the mood for this type of book. May pick up again later.

The backdrop of this book is addressing the way Singapore treats its migrant workers, domestic helpers in particular. Very important book to read and reflect on how we can do better as a society to improve the situation in Singapore

A purposeful novel for most of us to reflect on privilege and the struggles of migrant workers here in Singapore. Quite a hard read maybe because of the realistic pains and struggles of the migrant workers. Plot wise quite exciting. Balli is a great author and an inspiration!
