The circle trilogy was great. This book, not so much.

The series should have ended with White. Green took the story to weird, unnecessary places in order to make it a "Circle."

How does one go about writing a book that is the beginning and the end? I'll never know how [a:Ted Dekker|1441|Ted Dekker|http://photo.goodreads.com/authors/1201095936p2/1441.jpg] has accomplished this but I'm very excited about this book! This is my first read by Mr. Dekker and most certainly not my last! I love his writing style and how he has entertwined several books together. I may be mistaken but I'm thinking that the Lost History books play a part in the Circle series.

This is Book 0. You can read it first before reading [b:Black|8127|Anne of Green Gables (Anne of Green Gables, #1)|L.M. Montgomery|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1253159731s/8127.jpg|3464264] or you can choose to read it last after reading [b:White|24178|Charlotte's Web|E.B. White|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1167520504s/24178.jpg|987048]. Amazing eh?

Thomas is a leader who travels back and forth between a span of 2000 years. His clan is dying out due to a lack of faith in their god, Elyon. Thomas's son is a deserter and Thomas is married to the Quoron leader's daughter. What must be done to save the precious land from the Hordes and Eramites?

As mentioned, I've not read anything by Dekker before. I found it very hard to put this book down...after the first 15 chapters or so. The beginning I found to be very difficult to get into. There was something missing...maybe something in the Lost History books, I'm not sure. I was getting the impression that some of the characters where mentioned in other books. However, the characters are very well developed and once I really got into the story, I forgot what I didn't think I knew anymore.

There were many parallels between the Bible and the instances in this book. Thomas's clan "drowns" themselves in a river of blood...symbolic of a baptism of immersion. One dies to Christ and His blood covers them. I'm not sure how the vampire in the book fits into Biblical parallellism but it was a cool touch!

Would I recommend this book? You bet. Run out and buy it NOW! Whether you read it first or last, it's a great read. I might have to re-read it after reading the other books in this series. I've never read anything like it before!

Not as good as the others, but that is to be expected.

Ted Dekker's "Green" is listed as book 0 of the Circle series. It can serve as either book 1 or book 4, bringing the entire series full circle and tying up all the loose ends.

The book begins 10 years after White left off, or it begins in a completely unknown world that is just as confusing as the beginning of Black if one does not know the context of the story. The characters have the same depth as they did previously and the intensity of the story builds as much as it did in Black, Red and White. The fall of humanity at the end is described in amazing, vivid detail and many of idiosyncrasies of the world are explained (just in case the the over use of Christian mythology and imagery was lost on any of Dekker's readers).

However, the progression of the book seems forced. The plot is not as organic as it seemed in the other books, and the introduction of BIlly seemed like a superfluous quality used only to find some feeble thread of connection between the first and final book. The use of Janae's character fell flat and the reintroduction of Kara and Monique at the end of the story produced more questions about the state of our world than it answered. Most of all, this book is assuredly a book 4, not a book 0 or a book 1. There is no possible way of treating Green as book 1 in the series. Although the series would proceed chronologically from that point forward, the progressing of the story would seem unfulfilling because the reader already knows how it's going to end.

The weakest volume of the series. The tension builds to an ultimately unsatisfying conclusion.

This is one of those books that can't be judged alone, you have to take the entire series into account. And I don't care what anyone says this book should be read last, NOT first. To be honest, I spent about the first 75% of this book trying to figure out its purpose because I felt as if the series should have ended with White. But in the last 25% of the book Ted Dekker proved what a literary genius he is and how short-sighted I can be.
