To be honest with all of you this will be my second attempt at this book. The first time I was trying to read this book I was in I think my freshman or sophomore year of high school. Around that time I was trying to focus on my homework and reading whatever I needed to for school along with roleplaying. Not sex roleplaying but the type where you type up a reply to someone else. It’s kind of like writing a book but not really. I have decided to quit and it’s really hard…..
Anyways back to the reason for this blog post. I just finished this book and I have got to tell you. I liked…no that isn’t the correct word for how I felt about this book. I loved it! I mean it kept me entertained all the way through. Granted I didn’t start reading it until today, June 27, even though on goodreads I added it last night. I am happy though that I started to read this book.
The main character, and the person that is telling the story, is none other than Maggie O’Neill who at the beginning of the book is weary of her old job and just wanted a way out. Which lead her to meet Felicity an antique store owner that needed some help. Unknown to Maggie at the time that she would be thrown into a world full of “witchy” stuff that she didn’t know existed until then. Let alone with who she is either.
Maggie, slowly, throughout the book starts to realize that maybe her boss isn’t all that crazy. The one thing that I lead about this book is that I was guessing throughout the whole thing and I thought I knew who did it until I got blown a whimmy. For me I thought it was Felicity’s recently deceased husband but then again once we got to a point I thought it could have been his mistress at the time. Though I never thought that it would have been who it was.
This book I will give it a five star review since it met all my requirements and I love it so very much. I am going to be starting the next book soon I hope. Plus reading helps me a little bit in this heat wave that I am in Montana. Or at least it is trying too. I am hoping that next month will be easier especially since I am hoping to be writing for Camp Nanowrimo.
Camp Nanowrimo, for everyone that doesn’t know, is a plus where we can literally for a whole month just write a book or whatever we want to. It’s quite fun even though I haven’t exactly finished a month really. But I am hoping to change that this year especially with its main even in November. Granted this will be my second attempt at winning at camp. Hopefully I can do it.
Wow I just realized that this is my third book that I have finished in three days. WOOT! I am so happy of myself since this will make me on schedule again for my book challenge on goodreads!
Anyways until next time enjoy this book review brought to you by

I was so looking forward to reading this book. I was sort of disappointed. I wish there had been more magic. There was some but it seemed more of an afterthought. There also seemed to be the potential for more interactions among the characters but I'm guessing since this is the first in a series that most of the book was used to establish characters for use in future books. I will probably read the next one but if it isn't much better, I will most likely give up on the series. I enjoyed the Magical Bakery Series by Bailey Cates much more.
This was a fluffy little mystery that was full of obvious holes. They arrest Felicity one morning in part because they say she did a drive by on a man's house the night before. They say they know this because the previous morning, they confiscated all the antique guns from her house that used to belong to her husband before he died and the bullet in the drive-by came from one of those guns. Dude. If the police got them in the morning, how did she use one that night that they already had at the police hq? There were several other holes, but this was the most obvious. Maggie tried to be a sleuth to help out her friend (who she's known for 5 minutes and has decided to pledge her undying loyalty), but she's terribly inept at it. You know whodunit very early on and the clues are NOT subtle by any means. This story was kind of entertaining...at least enough for me to finish it, but it's not well written or well thought out at all.
While most of the plot and dialogue was predictable, it was still a somewhat entertaining read. I liked Christine and Steff, and while Maggie's resistance to the existence of the supernatural was refreshing it was also melodramatic and a bit eye-rolling. The negative, knee-jerk, conservative, christian-fundamental-sounding reaction some characters had to "witchcraft" really turned me off.
Overall it wasn't interesting enough and at the end I didn't care who killed who. I don't think I'll seek out more in the series.

I'm not quite sure what to make of this series. On the one hand I can't believe a 30-something would be as much of a prude as Maggie is, Midwestern Catholic upbringing or no. And considering that's a good chunk of my family tree, I think my skepticism is founded. And while I applaud the author's attempt to include a religion that is often side-lined by mainstream media, a bit less stereotyping would have been nice, as well as some actual inclusion and diversity among its practitioners.
I'm going to stick with the series because the books are quick reads and the pacing is good. I kinda like some of the side characters and I'm hoping Maggie will improve with exposure, an acquired taste of sorts.

Maggie O'Neill just lost her job and finds one the same day. Working for Felicity Dow at Enchantments she is brought into the world of witches and ghost. Her boss Felicity is being accused of murdering her sister and it might all be because she's a witch. Now Maggie is on the path of discovering her gift and trying to prove that Felicity is not guilty.
First off I didn't like the fact that the title didn't really go with the story being told. The magical aspect of the story is minimal or nonexistent. This book can be considered a mystery and suspense novel but not so much fantasy or magical. They do mention that Felicity is a witch but that is as far as it goes on the magical front. Ghost are also brought in to the story but again its minimal instances. The story mainly focuses on Maggie trying to get evidence showing Felicity's non involvement in the murder. There are some points where it seems to be focus on preaching about equality for the witches. The story also progresses slowly, there's not much action in the story.
Taking the book as a mystery novel it was good. Even though by the middle of the book you have an idea of who did the murder the ending was still a good twist. The characters area also well developed. Maggie evolves as the book progressed making her a more interesting character. I also liked officer Fielding and think he goes great with Maggie. Their bickering is great and they seem to have a connection. Hopefully we'll see more of him on the next book. I'm hoping the following books in the series have a bit more magic in it like the title states.

Everything about the author and writing annoyed the crap out of me, but I’m interested in this town and what the characters are up to (except the main character 🤮) so I’m stuck reading this series.
funny
lighthearted
mysterious
fast-paced
Perhaps not the best book ever, but hit the spot for my "witchy cozy mystery" craving. Tom sucks, though.
I have never decided not to finish a book so fast. First, she says she works in collections and has to pry $ from tight fisted debtors. Then she is so utterly negative about everyone new in her town that it's off-putting. She manages to insult so many people and groups in just a few pages that I just don't want to think about how the rest might go.
If anyone finishes this and finds that she changes her mindset, let me know. Maybe I am just too much of a "yuppy" for this author.
