Loved the positive portrayal about the hijab, and it was just a great read. A little bit too trying on the poetic side, but that didn't bother the kids. The girls loved it, and we had some great discussions about hijab because of this book.

My daughter loves her new picture book, especially because it focuses on her favorite color and depicts the hijab she sees Mama wear when she goes out :)

A beautiful book that empowers and celebrates young girls who wear a hijab without patronizing or condescending to a child audience or defaulting to white readers.

I love that this book is celebrating sisterly love and that the hijab is normalized. Lots of reviews are frustrated that the hijab isn’t explained, but that’s not this book’s purpose. This book is about a young girl excitedly and proudly watching her sister grow up. It doesn’t owe you anything more, just like Asiya doesn’t owe the bigot an education.

This is such a beautiful book. It’s one I plan to share with Muslim friends whose hijabi-wearing daughters would love to see themselves represented. With the POC girls that are “othered” for sharing their faith and culture. With the white families who need to speak with their families about the beauty of diversity.

"Don't carry around the hurtful words that others say. Drop them. They are not your words to keep. They belong only to those who said them."
This is my favorite quote in this book. What a beautiful message that we ALL need to hear.
It is the first day of school for sisters, Asiya and Faizah. What makes this day even more special is that it is Asiya's first day wearing her hijab.
Proudest Blue was a great book that is written by Olympic medalist Ibtihaj Muhammad.
I recommend this book for second graders and up if they are reading the book independently.

Beautiful story and illustrations. A story about standing strong in your faith and being proud of who you are.
