Sad but good

Book was great. Stephen King remains a steadfast author even as Bachman where he disguises his late 70s novels as if they were secrets (they’re really just more descriptive bandwagon type novels but I’d say overall they stand on their own merit).

Well written and I would say, fast paced for King/Bachman when compared to some of his other stories. This is more akin to Cell than The Shining or Misery, but that’s expected since he wasn’t in his horror bag. As always he has the power to make you root for whoever he chooses. I wanted Blaze to come out on top, even though we knew from the beginning he never would.

This is more like 2.5 stars. It was great to read something by King I hadn’t gotten around to, and since it was King it was still very readable, but not my favorite by a long shot.

Blaze never got a fair shake. He did questionable deeds, but he knew how to love, he deserved better.

How do you read a story about a man that kidnaps a baby and feel sorry for HIM? Rare, I know but that is what happens in Blaze. This book was one of Bachman's first books that was never published. A very interesting story

I listened to this audiobook and really enjoyed it. I love Stephen King, but sometimes when he writes as Richard Bachman, I like him even more.

I was very surprised with how much I enjoyed this! Admittedly, it was my first King novel I had ever read (gifted to me) and I can't believe I haven't started until now. Although it seems to be much more of a thriller novel than a horror, there's still moments throughout the book which shock and surprise. The characters each have their own distinctive personality and King surprisingly manages to win the reader's sympathy towards the 'villain' on several occasions. Overall, an exciting, fast-paced novel which offers an insight into the mind of a dumb kidnapper.
