I’ve sat on this book for a few years now and never felt overly compelled to read it. No real reason, just that I’ve never enjoyed his ‘Bachman Books’ as much. This doesn’t really feel like a Bachman book though, more like King at half power.
The story is basic but rattles along and Blaze is a compelling character, almost one note but perhaps rescued from this by not being quite a incompetent as he first seems. Still, there aren’t any great surprises and the ending just feels inevitable without saying much. It’s not bad but King can do so much better than this. A minor footnote in his oeuvre.

I enjoyed this book a lot, and I don’t understand why he felt like he needed the apology/warning in the beginning of the book. The characters were compelling, and the story kept me interested throughout. I took off one star because the transition from present day to Blaze’s past was a little jarring at times, and I read this after DEVOURING 11/22/63, which is now one of my favorite books of all-time. Overall, Blaze is another great piece of outstanding writing and storytelling from Stephen King.
This is the "last" of the Bachman books (until King finds another one in a box somewhere, I guess). While the story isn't bad, it feels unfinished. It's like stepping into a movie about 25 minutes in and then discovering that the director didn't know how to end it, so he just stopped filming. Blaze is physically giant and mentally diminished. His abusive father threw him down a flight of stairs (more than once), causing damage to the part of his brain responsible for communicating with the world. Still, under it all is another Blaze, one that speaks in the voice of his dead partner, George, and who isn't slow at all. Together, Blaze and this George-ghost plan the kidnapping of the heir to a large fortune. Once confronted with the actual responsibility of a child, Blaze's feelings change and the kid becomes the center of his world.

This is by far one of my favourite Stephen King novels! I could not put this book down and even went out and bought a hard-cover copy even though I already had the paperback edition!
I liked this one, it was very interesting and (at least for me) not predictable. Perhaps because it was a "Bachman" book I kept thinking it was going to get really ugly, so the suspense was high. I enjoyed it!
