I love, love, love the writing of this book. So descriptive and beautiful, it doesn’t just tell you about its world, it paints it for you, brushstroke by brushstroke. It tugs on all five senses to build its world around you while you read. A slow-paced read that I arguably wanted even slower!! I read 2/3s of this book in one day, it absolutely wrapped me up (the first 1/3 I was on vacation and also had 4 days to read a different book, so it was a slow start lol).
Kept me guessing all the while, fully immersed in the mystery! My heart was pounding leading up to Peggy and Hazel meeting for the first time. Like actually pounding! The layers of storytelling and how it affects us…so true!!!!!
I’m fascinated by the Pied Piper tale, and I’d forgotten that’s what this movement in England was called—definitely a choice. The way these two things blend and weave together made for quite the read.
Gosh and how it all came together?? Madness! So happy I finally picked this book up.

I love a good historical fiction book with time jumps though I felt like at times it was a little slow when jumping back in time. I found myself rushing through those chapters to get to the action in the "present" time (in the book 1960 was present time). I didn't call the twist ahead of time so that's always nice when its not predictable. Overall, I enjoyed it and I left wanting to know more about Operation Pied Piper which I didnt know about before reading the book.
