I wanted to love this, but the ex-husband part really bugged me, and I felt like we took a long trip to nowhere. The creepy parts were creepy and good, but the story needed something more.
It was good, it was really good. Until wasn't.

Below was genuinely scary. It’s been a long time since I could say that. This was my first foray into Mothman lore and honestly Hightower killed it (lol). The characters were well developed, especially within a novella, and the twists and turns kept me guessing until the very last paragraph. Also Hightower employed my all time favorite trope: woman gets tired of dealing either everyone’s crap and ends up embracing what lurks beneath. Highly recommended for horror readers!
A very fast paced and intense 100 page gem. The shirt chapters and constant action made this very easy to breeze through. Great atmosphere and building of dread. I also appreciated that the author never over described anything, letting me create a lot of the horror for myself.
I probably would’ve given this 5 stars but there were a few plot points that, while I didn’t want a full explanation, I would’ve liked a bit more context for. I also felt that the last few chapters went full blown last scene of Hitchcock’s Psycho and just felt like the book was screaming “It was all a metaphor! Do you get it!? Do you get the metaphor!?”

I've been wanting to read this one for SO long now. This was a very fast paced book (novella) and overall was very fun and entertaining. I was expecting a bit more however/ there was a few things that didn't add up (to me at least) with the ending and throughout. This book reminded me A LOT of the movie "The Descent" (2005).
Overall I would say 3-3.5/5. I enjoyed the read!
