I loved the story in this book, overall! It kept me interested and was full of action the entire time. Though the story was sapphic, there wasn’t a lot of spice. Only the beginning and the end. There could’ve been more. But overall, the story was great. But if you’re looking for a sexy, spicy and sapphic novel, maybe try a different one.

I liked how both the main characters were competent in their own right, but I felt like there wasn't enough time given for them to fully explore their dynamic and relationship with each other after the reveal.

They only meet once after the reveal and then never see each other for a year. Then Requiem comes back, confesses and they both go off on holiday together. The book ends like this. Requiem's change of heart happens mostly off screen, which is... not good. I wish we could have gotten more scenes of them actually being together.

I'm not a big fan of pet names, especially demeaning ones. I suppose it kind of goes from demeaning to affectionate in the end, but it still rubs me the wrong way.

Maybe I'm just not cut out for the romance genre. :(

This book was a challenging read for me. From it's very graphic start to the complicated and uninspiring end it was occasionally a slog. I feel like I should note that I am not a reader of mafia romances in general and this is very much along the same line, and while in the end I really did like it those likes come with a caveat.

To start with, you will not really like anyone in this book. They are all lying to each other. From the jump we meet the assassin who has no redeeming features besides being a brilliant musician and this church mouse of a woman who is to be her next target.  I'm skipping the bit in the very beginning that almost put me off the book all together, I'll cover that in a minute. As we watch these two interact and meet the cast of secondary characters that surround them, there is no demonstration of chemistry beyond their need to constantly poke at the others musical taste. Over and over again we're supposed to believe that the assassin wont complete the job because she's falling in love, but nothing happened to give an indication as such. So we continue to follow them through this whole process hoping for the best, but expecting the mouse to die and the assassin to just move on. But hours later (and I was reading audio, so it was literal hours) nothing had happened and I just wanted to know how it ended.

But here we get to the crux of the matter. Here are two characters that in their own stories I would have liked quite a bit, revolving around each other in a story that seems.... a little beyond reasonable, and by the end you are a little sweet on them. I really did want the victim to have her happy ending. And as much as I disliked the assassin I did want her to have love too.

I liked it, but I wont reread it.
