I remember rushing through this series, or at least up to book 10 with absolute fascination and a weird sense of urgency. Chancing upon this lone book at the back of the bookshelf made me relive those feelings again. I had forgotten how racy and the very definition of "pleasure-reading" the Princess Diaries series is.
I love how Mia, a precocious child at the age of 14, seems to have thoughts that oscillate between those of a mature adult and those of a normal child-like 14-year old. All the characters are equally crazy, with their own distinct personalities.
I found more things to appreciate about the book and more humor that had gone over my head back then. All in all, I'm getting serious thoughts of setting off on a Princess Diaries hunt again.

The last time I ever read a Princess Diaries novel, it was August of last year. So I decided to read Volume 2. It wasn't bad or anything but it's a very forgetful book but I finished it pretty quick.
Mia's still getting used to the princess life but she still have to deal with regular teenager stuff like crushes, friendships and having a pregnant mom and algebra teacher as a stepdad. There was some funny jokes here and there but the book consisted of Mia complaining about this and that. She's so whiny. I don't remember her being this whiny in the movie then I remember she's a teenager. Most teenagers are whiny.
After awhile, the old stereotypes jokes in the book got old and I hated in the end when Mia accepted Kenny's offer of a date when she liked Michael. Just tell Kenny the truth instead of leading him on. I didn't really like the first one but the first one is way more memorable. I felt like things in the novel were way too fast paced. There was only few things in the book that I enjoyed. Hopefully the third book is better.

The best thing about this installment was Mia's crush on Michael.
- Mia is still a spaz and still obsesses over EVERYTHING!
- Mia's mom is a basket case. Does she ever do any actual parenting? I feel like Mia takes care of their apartment and lives more than Helen.
- I do enjoy all the pop culture references. They are one of my favorite things about these books.
- Donald Trump is EVERYWHERE!! No one can escape him, even in a 15 year old book!
- I still don't like Lilly, and I'm not sure about everyone else.
