Well, Jesus.

I’ve never read anything quite like this before. I’m not talking about plot, because I’ve seen similar things in other dark academic novels. I’m talking about the texture of this book, the rich depth of character and scene.

While I grew deeply fond of some of the characters, I also couldn’t wait to be rid of them. They were awful, complex, fantastic and terrifying (except Judy, she’s just great).

It is likely I shall never fully recover.

If I could pick one book to reread for the first time, it would be this one. In fact I took a classics class this semester to hopefully get a similar effect

This is one of the best books I have ever had the pleasure of reading. I love well-done unreliable narrators, and Richard Papen is one of the best I've ever come across. This story gets a lot of hype and it deserves ever bit of it and more. The story is wildly fascinating. The first line reeled me right in, as it has so many since it first debuted: The snow in the mountains was melting and Bunny had been dead for several weeks before we came to understand the gravity of our situation." My heart is broken in the best of ways.
