The best thing about the book is it’s title. After that, it’s all downhill. I just couldn’t finish this. In fact, I couldn’t get into it! Too many characters, too much detail, and just too bland so far to care. I didn’t make it past the 3rd chapter. Save yourself the headache & just PASS on the ketchup!

Fun read, likable characters. Nothing earth shattering but enjoyable and made me wish i was part of a big, close-knit family with an anchoring space that still bound us all together.

[3.5]This was sooooo Chicago. I recognized the people and knew all the places. I loved peaking into the family dynamics and the reminder that no family, no matter how big or small, has everything figured out. People make choices and those choices (or non-choices) have consequences. Lives are messy. There is no real plot to the book and I wish we got more time with the older members of the family but that would have been a very different book.

3.5 stars. Multiple generations. A family restaurant. Many different characters as the narrator, all going through their own crisis. An enjoyable read.

This was SO good. At one point I was laughing so hard I was crying. Totally recommend.

rounding down from 3.5

This was fantastic! Exactly what I wanted from a book about privileged family members and their relationships. The patriarch has recently died, and the family restaurant is falling apart as are the lives of all the adult grandchildren. The Cubs won the world series and just days later Trump won the election to the chagrin of the family. I might bump this to a five lets see if it sticks.

I decided to read this with a friend over 18 months ago and finally started it this month. I loved it - even though I thought it was a quiet, easy love story set in a restaurant ... it's not. It's about the patriarch of a family dying, Trump getting elected, and the Cubs winning the World Series - and what happens to a family during all of it. It's told from multiple perspectives and is really great!
