I love stories about big, slightly dysfunctional families and, especially since I am from there, a bonus was that it was set in Chicago around the time the Cubs won the world series. THis was a pleasant read that made me feel good.

I really enjoyed this book. I liked how the story progressed throughout the different characters point of view and what they were going through and then how it all related to the story as a whole. I’m a huge cubs fan as well so having this take place in 2016 and reflecting on them winning pulled at my heart strings for sure. The characters and the Sullivan family are relatable and honest and although I’m not sure if they ever resolve their issues as a whole- they still come together as a family and cheer each other on.
"Why are you the way that you are?" -Me to me after finishing yet another underwhelming book in a two-month stretch.
Why am I like this? Why can I not just DNF a book that isn't resonating instead of allowing it to become another chore I have to complete? If someone put a gun to my head and asked me to summarize this book, I couldn't do it. I still don't know how some of the members of this absurdly large cast are related. As far as family sagas go, this was so dull. None of the family members had any real personality, and all they did have were annoying traits. I was hoping a fun restaurant setting would save this one, but that was totally lacking for me as well. Yes, I finished it, but I really don't see why people are liking it.
*Also, this one had a continuous commentary on the myriad ways the 2016 election results negatively affected the family while adding absolutely nothing to the story. Just an outlet for the author to tell everyone exactly how much she hates Trump. And as someone who shares that opinion, I still found it to be super annoying and over the top.
