WOW! For a short novella, this was action-packed! The story was incredibly well-thought-out and very detailed for its briefness. If you are in the mood for something short, but still a great story, this is for you!

Another well-written, well-narrated novella. DID NOT see the plot twist coming and found myself laughing about it for a few hours later in the day.

Will remember this story for sure!

Narration: 5 Stars

If you've got a pet at home - particularly a dog - & you're a fan of thrillers, you've got to make it a point to either listen to or read Samantha Downing's novella, Sleeping Dogs Lie - this was truly made for animal lovers everywhere!

I decided to give this a listen & I absolutely loved both of our narrators, they each gave a great performance & kept me fully invested the entire time. I liked the way this novella was structured, we got three parts, two from Shelby, the dog walker, & one from the detective assigned to the case who's interviewing Shelby - getting both of their POVs really kept me on my toes regarding the central mystery at hand, I didn't know who to trust! The pacing was perfect, there were just the right amount of twists & turns & red herrings sprinkled throughout, & right when I thought I had it all figured out, I was caught off guard by the ending. Without giving anything away, I got a real kick out of the killer's motivation here & I think many others will, too.
SpoilerI know I've definitely both heard & seen others say they'd kill someone if they were cruel to a dog - "Shelby" just so happened to follow through on those threats

I don’t have much luck with audible originals, but this novella slayed! I will definitely be checking out her other books. Sometimes…being able to cut out all the extra jargon in order to get to the meat of the book is nice.

This mystery is centered around a young dog walker trying to make extra money to go back to school. When she returns her favorite dog—a husky named Pluto—home, she finds the owner dead in the bathroom. Who killed him? His soon to be ex wife? His assistant (who’s he’s rumored to be having an affair with)?, Shelby the dog walker herself? Come find out in this quick & easy listen!

Listened through audible. A fast paced read for the animal lovers. I enjoyed the twists and turns and found it an enjoyable performance while I was getting ready for work. The dog walker finds the owner murdered in the bathroom with no clues to speak of. The cops work quickly to narrow the field. Could it be the soon to be ex wife? The angry neighbor? Or someone else right under their nose?

Really enjoyed this novella. Found it on audible as I was searching for Samantha Downing novels as I enjoyed My Lovely Wife.

3 stars - This went by really fast, I enjoyed the quick mystery with a twist (I don't do a lot of murdery/mystery so I was honestly surprised).
