Not compelling, but a good read. The author seems to overreach her ability to write court drama yet again, but the world is nice. The premise is that most of our reality (a future reality) has decided to freeze itself in a simpler time, the 14/15 century with some anachronisms. The criminals, crazy people and others were sent to a "perfect" world with a keeper in the AI, Incarceron. Oh, but things never work so easily.

And incredible adventure, a prison that lives and takes over the prisoners!! So many lives, some torn and re-built, some no longer even human. It hears all , knows all, but who is in control and what is real ? A young man finds his dreams of places of light and he yearns to see the outside, a rumored place. he and his friends risk everything to find out the truth. Twisted and dark this tale has some of the best world building i have ever read. What I found most amazing was the originality of the story, utterly fantastic.

For me there was WAY too much going on with the world of Incarceron. It’s basically worlds within worlds and because it’s so expansive, it felt like it wasn’t fully developed to me. It seems like the author had too many ideas and couldn’t narrow it down to what Incarceron really is. The only thing that I did like about it (and for me the only memorable part of the book) was the forest made of metal. And that was a very small part of the book.
I would have been much happier just following Claudia in her world. I couldn’t get behind her love of the lost prince when they only met briefly in childhood and that was years ago. The whole time I was rooting for her to wake up and realize she loves her tutor!

An engrossing book that kept me occuppied during these recent snowy days. :) I recommend it to anyone who enjoys dystopian novels with a sci-fi/steampunk/fantasy bent.

Honestly I have absolutely no idea what has happened or is going on at this point. This is a book I have been carting around for years and I think this is God telling me it’s time to move on. Don’t really want to spend the next four and half hours trying to force myself through something that I’m not gonna remember a month from now. Especially considering it’s been 24hrs and I am still clueless as to what has happened. It is finally time to part ways with this book.

3.5 stars. Good enough for me to read the next one. The writing was hard to follow in some spots, but I think that's more my imaginations fault than the authors writing. The world the story takes place in is definitely original and well thought out.
