I’d like to start by thanking NetGalley, Starwater Press, and of course the author Briar Boleyn for providing me with this eARC in exchange for my honest review.
If you don’t like reading about extremely unlikable characters this will not be the book for you! *Game of Thrones Joffrey level of unlikable*
I highly recommend also checking the trigger warnings! The triggers start off early on.
This book is a mix of Camelot and Fae, the world is exciting! Boleyn did such a great job of describing her world, it was so easy for me to immerse myself. Kairos Draven was so loving and very respectful towards Morgan. He won my heart very early on in the book, he showed that even before he got to know Morgan, he would go to extra lengths to protect her!! At times it felt like Morgan didn’t appreciate him, and I kinda questioned many times if she even deserved him. BUT I am in love with him so…maybe only I deserve him? Kudos to Boleyn for writing the perfect man for this world!
I was hooked by the amount of action and twists at the end. The cliffhanger has me all pumped up for the next book! I can’t wait to continue with the series.
I do think Morgan could use a bit more depth. The romance might be lacking, I would have loved more.. but overall, this series is off to a good start with great world-building and a plot that keeps you engaged.

Tbh got sucked into this by a spicy ad and it did not deliver lol. And also was SO CLOSE to DNF this but pushed through.
This book took the longest for me to get through out of all the books I’ve read this month (2.5 weeks) in which during this time I’ve finished like 4 fics and 2 books. When i got it i didn’t realize it was a spin on the Arthurian narrative which i didn’t mind but it did make it hard to follow at times with the different gender swaps which was totally fine but took some adjusting.
It’s the first book of a series but it didn’t draw me to want to read the rest. The characters weren’t compelling enough for me and a lot of the exposition could have been reduced.
Despite being similar along the lines of what i like this one wasn’t my cup of tea. On to the next.

Shunned. Betrayed. And sent on a deadly mission she never asked for.
Stripped of her birthright and scorned for her half-fae blood, Morgan Pendragon has always been the court's outcast — and her own brother, the king, isn't any kinder. When she's forced to retrieve a legendary sword that may not even exist, Morgan is thrust into a world of shadows and danger.
From death-defying battles and nightmarish creatures to a stoic assassin-turned-guard and another who couldn’t care less if she survives, Morgan's journey is anything but simple. Along the way, she forges unexpected bonds, unearths her true power, and learns just how deep the betrayal at court runs.
This story is packed with gripping twists, rich court intrigue, fierce friendships, and a brooding protector with all the "touch her and die" energy us book girlies adore. With an intense, feisty heroine and chilling moments that’ll make you want to run and hide (Children of the Corn zombie vibes, anyone?), this fantasy adventure will keep you hooked until the very last page.

SOMEONE HOLD ME.
I was not prepared for how much Queen of Roses would wreck me in the best way possible.
From page one, Morgan stole my heart. She’s fierce, vulnerable, and carrying the kind of pain that makes you want to crawl into the pages and fight beside her. Her brother Arthur? Absolute monster. Zero stars. Would not recommend. And the worst part? Morgan spent her whole life trusting the “medicine” meant to protect her — only to find out it was killing her instead.
Enter Draven: broody, stubborn, and just what Morgan needed when her world started crumbling. I am feral for their dynamic.
I’m trying so hard not to scream about all the betrayals, battles, and plot twists that had me gasping out loud — I won’t spoil the twists and turns they face (you need to experience them firsthand), but let me just say: the last 50 pages. I’m talking heart-pounding, nail-biting, “WHY IS THIS HAPPENING” levels of stress.
And that ending?! THAT CLIFFHANGER?! Unhinged. Absolutely unhinged behavior from the author.
Blood of the Fae might officially own my soul now.
This is the first book by Briar Boleyn that I have read an found myself speeding through it. I could have finish this in one seating but I decided to sleep @2 and finish the rest in the morning.
Description:
Morgan is the princess of a kingdom ruled by her younger tyant brother. After the death of her mother Morgan is cast aside by her father due to the rumour of her blood being tainted by fae blood. With that Morgan will never be queen and at the age of 21 she will be given to The Three. She has no freedom and spends her days training and trying to write the wrongs of her brother by helping her people. So when her brother sends her away to find a sword of legends on a mission with two people likely to kill her. However, she has no choice but to go and risk these men killing her, since her brother threatens to marry her off to enemy. Morgan goes on a journey with Draven who was recently promoted to the guard to keep her “safe, ” but is labeled as dangerous as he is handsome.
Tropes:
-King Arthur-inspired retelling, Slowburn, “Who did this to you?”, Forced Proximity, Enemies to lovers, Royal Guard, one bed, ‘look after when sick’, fantasy, and worldbuilding.
Warnings
Abduction Abuse, Alcohol Consumption, Animal Death, Child Abuse, Child Death, Deceased Family Member, Domestic Violence, Drug Use, and Poisoning Violence / Gore.
I rates it 4/5 stars.
Thoughts:
What I enjoyed about this book is the fast-paced speed and the world-building. This is inspired by King Arthur but it is not a retelling. Solely the kingdom political system and names match the story. I thought the entire story was fast paced but as soon they left the kingdom things were tense waiting to see what unfolded. This book has a ton of parallels to from blood and as he and I have a love-hate relationship with that. I enjoyed that it was familiar but it felt too predictable through most of it. Poppy and the duke, and Morgan with Florian.
Representation:
Merlin is a female high priestess. Lancelot is a gay women working to being a knight.
The next book was set up well with a cliffhanger of more mysteries rising. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys these tropes and FBAA.
I received this book as an ARC through NetGalley.
