This book was good - I will be honest, it felt like the author had to drag me along in some places because of how cryptic she was being with the plot and characters. However, that’s not to say I didn’t enjoy the suspense. I just have to laugh though, there were many moments I wanted to run around with a massive red flag because of some of these characters lol

Camelot retelling with fae twist.

It has potential tho I might say Book 1 is a bit draggy and it only gets interesting in Book 2. Only that I wish there were more character's depths and their development. I just couldn't sense the chemistry between Morgan and her friends, or Morgan with Kaye.

But you know what, I am totally invested in this series.

Thank you NetGalley & publisher for this eARC.

Note: please read tw before reading — sexual/physical abuse, death, manipulation & more.

I have no words. The world building is a bit much but it really helps transform you to make you feel apart of the world itself but pages worth of room descriptions really takes away from the plot, bleh.

The plot twists and everything in between was captivating and easy to read. It reminded me of ACOTAR in some ways. A little bit of romance and spice along the way! Diving right into book #2

Honestly, this book turned out better than I thought it would. The characters were interesting and well written. The ending left enough hanging to push you to the next book. Except for that weird John Wick part in the middle it's a solid fantasy story.

Received this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

MC Morgan Pentagon was born by the King and a Fae Woman. Because of her mother, she was rumored to carry the blood of the fae in her veins. The King removed her mother, dubbed her brother King, and she was promised to the goddesses when she comes of age to be a high priestess. A role she was not ready for.

A princess of royal blood and the future high priestess of all of Pendeath, who likes to blend in and also sneaks around to help her people as one of them? My kind of story. I enjoyed the detailed world building of the story.

As a high priestess, vowing to the Three, you must also vow to celibacy for at least 30 years. Until one day, her brother, the King, sends her off onto a deadly mission.

Lots of action once the troop was on the road, but I'm left with a lot of questions and in need of answers in book 2.

Spoiler
I am so glad she stopped drinking the medicine and we got to see her blossom into a fae.
I'm glad she killed Vesper, I had a bad feeling about him from the start.

After being disinherited from becoming heir to the throne, Morgan Pendragon is forced to navigate life with her tyrannical brother, Arthur, as King of Camelot. Morgan finds herself thousands of miles away from home in search for an ancient sword with Captain of the Royal Guard, Draven. Queen of Roses is a great mix of action, magic, and a slow burning romance. I look forward to reading Morgan’s character arc through the series. This book has left Morgan and company in search of Excalibur, the ancient sword, after it falls into the wrong hands. Can’t wait to read what’s next in Morgan’s journey!

the twists were twisty! full disclosure, i have had this book on my TBR kindle since June 2024 and didn't know! briar, don't hate me 🙈

i absolutely love Morgan Pendragon. i fully believe she is going to be a force to be reckoned with and even the growth she's gone through during book one was so beautiful to watch!

draven on the other hand.. 🥰 if you're looking for tall, dark and handsome, he's right here! holding secrets of his own, he never shies away from protecting the people in his care. even giant battle cats!

i was worried that i wouldn't have a good experience because i read On Wings of Blood and The Bond That Burns before the Blood of Fae series, but i was so wrong. if Queen of Roses is anything to go by, this series can absolutely hold its own and its going to throw in a few sucker punches for free. i cannot wait to dive into book two!

I could not finish this book. The whole thing was very juvenile, stuttering and repetitive. This was not an adult novel. The final straw for me was at 18% when Florian carves his name into Morgan's headboard and she began to scratch and stab away at those six unbearable letters. SIX? There are seven letters there. I can forgive bad writing in a debut novel. It's bound to happen as an author hones their craft. But counting? Who let this get printed?

This book was a fast paced, world building SPECTACULAR!!

I really enjoyed the different take on the classic king Arthur. It was filled with some dark moments but there was always hope.

The FMC was strong willed in her own understanding of how her life was meant to go yet still had moments of weakness when she thought it was for the greater good. Her life has not been easy and I think this is what causes her to judge the wrong people and trust others who shouldn't be.
I enjoyed the journey and learning about some of the side characters as the story unfolded. You truly get to see how these people of different stations, faith, and backgrounds can become such good friend.
The only thing I couldn't get around is how naive the FMC was when it came to giving her feelings to someone who only had to do one nice thing.
