What a brilliant first book of the series. I received this ARC following the release of the fourth book, so I could happily read the entire series back to back and not have to wait for them to be released which I loved.
Positives:
- the MMC is drool worthy. The little things he does for the FMC, the level of protection he provides, the silent brooding vibe you get from him
- the very very very slow burn enemies to lovers vibe from this first novel
- the world building even from the start is brilliant and sets a really good precedent for the rest of the series to build from
- you really HATE the FMCS family from the get go, so even though she can be frustrating, you side with her immediately due to her mistreatment and how munch h you hate them.

Negatives:
- the love triangle!! We already know who we want to end up together and the fact there is another person shoving their way into their relationship annoys me!
- the FMC is incredibly meek and gives off ‘I feel very sorry for myself and everyone else should too’. It annoys me and makes me dislike her in this first book.

The cliffhanger at the end really threw me off and thank god the rest of the series has been released because I cannot cope with having to wait to find out what happens!!
This was a 4.5 star read for me. Thank you to Briar Boleyn for this ARC.

Freaken loooooved this book!

Honestly I devoured this book in 1 night! It gave me all the feels! The world building was great and I loved how all the side characters were brought in and how you were able to connect with them also. Not really spicy but does have some hot tension! The slow burn is sooo good. Can't wait to start book 2!

I came across this book on Tik Tok and I decided to give it a go, based off of seeing the blurbs that were posted.

The plot/story line I loved the idea of it. I loved how the author was putting a spin on the whole King Arthur tale and turning it into something different and making King Arthur a villain in this story line. I loved how the Author tied in the Fae into the mix. That is what drew me in.

The FMC was okay in this book. She was afraid of her Fae heritage, and very timid when around others, but give her a sword and put her in the training ring she would flourish. The FMC had room for improvement in her actions but I figured with book two she would grow. And let's face it, we do not always have to love the FMC in a book to want to read it for the plot/story. She acts like she is all innocent and sweet and inexperience, but then the first chance she gets to get with someone she automatically begins to have loose values after meeting up with someone immediately.

The MMC was someone who I had an idea of what his type of character was based off of how the Author was describing him. I was able to guess who/what he was within the first 6 chapters of the book and then for what he was, he appeared incredibly weak and unable to defend himself, but he was one of the reasons why I liked the book. I liked his character and who I figured he was and wanted to see what he wanted with the FMC and how he tied into her. Then at some point in the book the author made it seem like there was going to be another MMC instead of the one I thought was. So that was kind of confusing but I figured out she was just adding another side character into the mix.

You don't find out why he was in her court in the first place, you don't find out why he was hired by the King to be a guard, you don't learn anything of his back story besides what a few side characters tell the female main character, prior to her departure with him, which had little to do with why he was leaving with the character.

I rated this a 3 because I loved the idea of the story where the author could have gone with the story.

I adore Arthurian retellings, and I particularly enjoyed the twist that Briar has put on that particular legend. The characters were very well written and I could feel the emotions of Morgan as clearly as if they were my own throughout the book. The cliffhanger was just enough to not be confusing or frustrating, but instead piquing my interest for the next book.

This book was such a great retelling of the tales or Arthur and the round table. Loved what the author did with Morgana and how she developed the story, especialy when the original tales doesn't give much space to women to start with.
The pace is good, so is the story. The characters are so well written and their chemistry is on point. Their development makes sense and adds value to the story.

magnificent

This is the retelling of the century! What an incredible story. The amount of work and research that the author had to have put into this is unbelievable!

I have always been a fan of any and all King Arthur storie! I never realized that what I have been longing for was a Fae telling! Briar takes characters that we are all familiar with and changes them just the right amount, making this story perfect.

A female Merlin and a lesbian Lancelot (Lancelet)… yes please!!! All the characters that we know and love, as well as some new ones. Book one is a very slow burn but the amount of world building that’s happening makes the wait worth it!!

I got this as an arc on NetGalley and I’m extremely grateful for that!! I can’t wait to start book 2!!!

I blew through this book and cannot wait to get to the rest of the series. I really like the world building and I LOVE the Arthurian vibes…Especially once you toss in some fae action too. Morgan is a little frustrating for me because I would lose patience with her being timid and she is very naive, but I think that also leaves a lot of room for her character growth in the later books. There were certain twists I was able to predict, but specific one the end had more to it than I was expecting, and it definitely took me by surprise. I’m really looking forward to see how certain relationships develop moving forward as well as the stories of some of the supporting characters.

This book swept me away into a mesmerizing retelling of the Arthurian legend, where Morgan le Fey takes center stage. Right from the start, I was captivated by the poignant backstory of our protagonist and the clever twists that breathed new life into the familiar tale. The slow-burn romance between Morgan and the enigmatic Kairos Draven had me positively giddy with anticipation. The sparkling banter between them added an extra layer of delight. The world-building transported me effortlessly into this enchanting realm, although there were instances of slightly overwhelming information towards the end. With its blend of betrayal, intrigue, and unexpected revelations, this book left me yearning for more. If you crave a spellbinding fantasy romance with rich characters and a fresh take on Arthurian lore, looking forward to the next one.

3.25/5

This Arthurian retelling had many compelling elements. Our main character, Morgan, is a princess of Camelot, her cruel brother, Arthur, king. Morgan’s life has been anything but easy, the violence and trauma heartbreaking to read about. The concept was fantastic, I was so excited to read it. Throughout the book, I noticed that the writing style felt rushed and I didn’t feel connected to most of the characters. Additionally, some of the plot points didn’t make sense to me, such as Vesper. Strong ideas and an okay execution.
