It took me a little while to really get into the book, but let me tell you when I did. I just started my fantasy journey last year and I am really enjoying the ride so far. I have read other reviews indicating that this was just a retelling of King Author and maybe it was I don't have that much experience with the whole story other than the things I have seen on movies, but regardless I did enjoy this read and would definitely recommend, specially to someone who is trying to get into fantasy. I look forward to reading book 2.
Thank you Netgalley for the privilege.

Wow. Where to begin…..if you are a fan of Sarah J Maas or Jennifer L Armentrout, you should absolutely check this book out. From the first sentence you are grabbed and pulled in. The characters are likeable, the story moves along at a good pace & the world building is great. The first book did an excellent job pulling you in, and making you want to know what is really going on. There is plenty of action, and I want to hurry and finish my review so that I can go start the second book……the cliffhanger at the end was great.
There are lots of moving parts with this one, and I enjoy the fact there is plenty of action- but there is also political intrigue, slow burn romance and interesting characters. Without giving away plot points, I will say that all characters are actually in jeopardy when events happen, which I appreciate.
I also appreciated that there are trigger warnings for the book, but they are included at the end. If you have triggers, there is a link at the beginning that will take you to them so that you can make an informed decision. However, if you don’t have any triggers, you don’t have any idea what is coming, which is great. I know these warnings are important for some readers’ mental health, but sometimes they give things away and allowing people the freedom to choose while still being respectful was nice.
This book was a great read, and I cannot wait to see where the story goes. It is absolutely worth the read. :)

Read this in two days lmao which shows just how much I loved this book.
Morgan makes me sad. I feel she tries to be more independent and have a backbone but that's so hard when you're clearly living in an abusive environment, from her bitch ass daddy to Arthur stupid ass.
I just hope that going forward, she can grow and develop. Her sense of self worth is so low, I need to her to see herself for the bad bitch she is. With or without Draven (i love him! I do!!!!!! But i need her to develop herself without the aid of a Man, especially since all the men in her life failed her tremendously. Fuck Vesper or whatever his name was)

First of all, I have to thank the author and NetGalley for providing me with the ARC. Still, this review is strictly my own thoughts and impressions.
So, I got into this book now knowing what to expect. I am an avid romantasy reader, so the theme seemed right to me. And boy, it did :)
I've recently read a lot of the genre, but this was one of the books that got me hooked from the prologue. I like that it has some darker topics, it's not your YA romantasy. It does have some tropes, yes, but it still tells such a compelling story.
You can tell this isn't the author's first book, rather her first one in the romantasy world.
The one thing I didn't care for, and it is just my personal preference, is
Anyway, WOW :) I'm off to book number 2!

the sort of romantic triangle that was forming. Still, it didn't go too far with the trope and I'm eternally grateful for it :)Anyway, WOW :) I'm off to book number 2!
This was my first Briar Boleyn's book and she now has one more devoted fan in me!
I am an avid romantasy reader, so I'm quite familiar with the genre. Still, this book is something different. It is a romantasy novel, but with a twist. It explorers some darker themes, but in the perfect amount. It builds world, stories, characters impeccably.
I think it's quite enough to say I was hooked since the prequel. It kept me on my feet, made me not wanting to stop and left me wanting for the sequel, which I am sure I will devour as fast, or even faster than Queen of Roses.
I know this is author's first step into the genre, and I'm so happy she shared this world and characters with us.

This one took me a bit to get into, which I think was mainly because I started it during exam season, but by chapter 10 I was fully engrossed. I wasn’t a big fan of the structure when it started off, but I did find that it improved. At the beginning I felt overwhelmed by backstory and world building, though as the book continued on it made sense because of how complicated the world was. I loved that it was a twist on the Arthurian story, which I have always really enjoyed.
The bonds between the characters were beautifully written, and I genuinely enjoyed getting to witness them develop. Especially Morgan and Lancelot's friendship. I loved Darven from the beginning, his obvious kindness and gentle but fiercely protective nature. And on the other side, hated Vesper from the beginning, though their connection initially seemed innocent, there always seemed like there was more he wasn’t saying.
The plot was definitely fast paced (and I found it kinda choppy at times) but was definitely enjoyable. I’ve heard it can be kinda predictable, but I found lots of twists that I wasn’t expecting and that kept me on the edge of my seat.
And though I have many books on my physical tbr that I am determined to finish before the end of this summer, the rest of this series is on the list to read right after and I can’t wait to share my review for those as well.

Queen of Roses was a delight to read! While I could guess some of the plot points, I found myself still shocked every time one of the twists happened. I didn't realize how much I needed to read a dark retelling of the Arthurian Legends or how much I truly enjoy twists on them (Legendborn, Mists of Avalon, Silver in the Bone). I want to consume it all. Out is the Beauty and the Beasts retellings, I'm here for the Arthurian Legend ones.
Queen of Roses is certainly a Dark Romantasy, leaning harder into darker territory than many other romantasy titles. The final scenes were full of body horror that I wasn't quite prepared for but wasn't something that felt out of the blue. I'm excited to see where the author takes this series, knowing where we've started.
I received an ebook ARC from Netgalley and am never paid for my reviews.
