Hardy paints a haunting yet beautiful picture of the agony and the injustice of being a woman who is "impure." The details, the internal struggles have been potrayed as good as one can expect. A beautiful haunting read.

Devastating portrait. While the book is a classic the lens of the author is refreshingly modern, he writes as an advocate for the protagonist as she is wronged by her own family, love and society. Wonderfully written female characters for the time its set in.

What a bizarre experience!!! Just when Tess can’t get it any worse, she does. A story about the injustice women experience. But just too long. It felt like 3 different stories in one. What a rollercoaster. I wouldn’t recommend it, but I also don’t regret reading it.
