Yikes. This will be my last Stephen King attempt. The straight, white, male writer as our hero protagonist is overused by King to the point of being laughable and I just can't take it seriously any more. I'm sick of his blatant misogyny, homophobia, racism, and oh my god FATPHOBIA running through all of his books even/especially as his white liberal main message would be that everyone's ok by him. And I know I'm not the target audience here, but the casual nature of it makes it all the more insidious, because people reading it might accidentally internalize some of the bullshit. I can't BELIEVE the climax of Beverly's child arc was that and then in the climax of the adult arc she literally did nothing because what, we'd already used her up? I felt like people said this book was good and so I fucking SLOGGED through the first 10% until things started to pick up, and then finishing it has felt like a determined marathon of work that basically never got fun because of all the aforementioned reasons and then in the end just made me super mad (well, throughout just made me super mad). Glad Silver did something, I guess. I don't regret reading It because I have now fucking earned my permanent retiring of Stephen King. Oh, also it was fucking waaaaaaaay too long. Get over yourself. Woof.

Giving it 2 stars because if anything, it did take a lot of effort to plan out and write. But from a liking it perspective it's definitely a 1.

I admit, I did watch the movies first. Having said that, the book is 100x better! I thoroughly enjoyed getting to read about the Losers' Clubs beginnings and the differences from film to novel.

Pennywise was truly terrifying and managed to attack everyone's biggest fears, while not going of its way to try and kill them individually, only scare them.

At times, the book did drag on, however, I think all the backstory of the characters was almost necessary in order to understand why they act how they act.

Favorite audiobook ever! One of my favorite SK books too.

The narrator is animated but this book is too long, keeping my attention isn’t easy.

I'm at 94% and there's just no way I can finish the last hundred pages. This book is so incredibly good, but I think King drops the ball when he explains exactly what It is. I'm sure I'll read it again one day, and maybe I'll be able to read it in it's entirety, but for now I'll just read the wiki to find out how it ends.

No matter what I do I just can't seem to finish this book. I'm starting it over again instead

Third times the charm! I was finally able to read this book all the way through and my conclusion is that I was smart to stop before the finale the first two times I read it. The ending SUCKS. The fight with Pennywise is super weird. All the 10/11 year olds have sex in the sewer after their battle with It so they can find their way out? Then everyone just goes and forgets the whole ordeal in the end? It was very strange and not at all satisfying.
Also I was driving through a construction zone on the highway while I was frantically skipping ahead in the audiobook so I wouldn't have to listen to the child orgy scene and that was stressful. Don't get me wrong. I still love this book! I'm just never going to read it all the way through again. I'll watch the movies instead

"We all float down here..."

Before I start, I'd just like to say that this book is a classic and I can see why it's one of King's most popular books. I also love the story itself. The friendships. The pyschological side of this thriller/horror is amazing and extremely complex.

My favourite Loser was Richie followed closely by Ben. I enjoyed the dynamics between the group of Losers and how their friendship developed over the course of the book. Love the films too.

Okay, so why the 3 star rating? Well...it's too f**king long! At over 1,000 pages, I feel it's far too long winded in places. At one point, there wasn't a new paragraph for almost 6 pages! The random side characters were pointless. Who cares about Mr so-and-so down the road who had nothing to do with the plot? But I had to read about him for almost 50 pages and I don't even remember his name...

The writing style is mental. Not only are the paragraphs pages long, but what's with the random parentheses? Okay, granted, King is a hugely talented writer, there's no doubt about that but I do find his books hard to digest, hence why I took almost 2 months to read this book.

Lastly, the ending...let's just say I'm glad they left one part out of the films and I'm glad they changed the ending because the book actually left me feeling a little sad. And after all the Losers had been through, they deserved a happy ending!

Well this book took a lot of courage for me ( i'm one of the traumatized people who watched "It" mini series as a child).
Mr. King as always does a great job of connecting real world (emotions, growing up, brink of adolescence...) and horror. In a way "It" reminded me of "The body", theme of growing up, letting go of kids stuff etc..
I'm not going go in deep with the sewer sex scene, because everyone mentions it and i really can't, i just can't. It could have been done differently and that's all.
In a whole i loved "It" (i didn't put it in a freezer (remember Joe and "The Shining" ) YAY ME!), it scared the hell out of me and it made me miss my childhood again. Because the friends you have as a child are like no other, the complete trust and comradery that you can't achieve no more.

But I still hate clowns!
