4⭐️ I don’t even know what to say honestly. It’s a long book. It’s a book I can say that much lol. I feel like this is what would be called “too much detail.” Maybe it’s just the way Stephen King writes that I’m not a big fan of. I can tell why most of this was left out of the movies though. I will never truly understand the purpose of like 5-6 pages worth of underaged sexual content. Thats the only thing that really bugged me. The use of the n word was a bit much but it describes the time period. Would I read it again? Probably not. It was one of those books to say it was nice to read once. It’s a classic book that will be staying on my shelf though.

Good for a "scare-the-hell-out-of-me" read...but only in the daylight!

I love Stephen King's writing style. He has a way of putting in the most minute details which really makes the characters seem real. It is no exception to this. The story is about 7 kids drawn together by a childhood tragedy/nightmare. They reunite to rid the town of Derry of the thing "It." I really enjoyed this book up until the last 100-150 pages. I was a little disappointed with the ending, I was expecting "It" to be something more horrifying than it really is.

Scared the bloody hell out of me, and I hate clowns!

The descriptive language is impeccable. You can imagine everything as if you were experiencing it yourself. That is what makes this book so haunting. The words stick with you because you feel them as you read them. I would definitely recommend if you’re willing to commit to the length. Once you start, you are sucked in until you finish.

I survived reading It and it only took me six and a half months 🏆

My husband and I picked this up as our joint Halloween read in 2024. It is now mid-March 2025.

I think that speaks to the absolute slog that this book is. And listen - I’m not a hater. I hand out 4 and 5 stars easily - probbaly too easily. AND there were parts of this book that really inspired me - that I thought were so beautifully written - Mike’s final journal entries being one of my favorites.

Unfortunately, the parts that I loved were surrounded by a lot of shit that I didn’t. I’m also struggling a bit with the ‘why’ of the storytelling - it felt so all over the place and so it didn’t really land for me. It honestly felt like the epilogue was trying so hard to be deep to make sure you ‘got’ the book?

Felt like there were so many stronger times in the last 40 pages to end the story. And that’s kinda the gist of every chapter. Hm. Probably could have ended it there.

And lastly - I can understand context in terms of the time that a book was written and published, HOWEVER, the endless pedophilic comments, racism, and stereotypes made this hard to get through. A small part of me thinks that’s part of the point? It seeps into everything, even the writing of this book? Maybe I’m giving Stephen too much credit.
Yeah, no I definitely am.

Whew. I’m glad it’s over.

I think I’m going to struggle to read more of King. His writing of women is atrocious and I could be reading books I enjoy more.

I think this is the biggest book I've ever read. I honestly wish it was broken up as a series because it wouldn't have been as intimidating.  Crazy they were able to make this into a movie (twice). For the material they were given and the task they had to adapt it to screen, I thought the movie (I've only seen the newer ones) were really well done. For the book itself I still think I'm digesting it? The book is creepy and gross and I definitely had a few nightmares. But it's also heartwarming and funny. I feel like this is very much a you have to experience it yourself to understand what I'm talking about and I think you can kinda get the gist if you do watch the movie. I really want to rewatch the movies now that I have all the context of the book.
