5/5 for the audiobook
2/5 for the book itself- The smut was worth the 2 stars, zero for the plot (or lack there of)
DNF with 1.5 hours left.
This audiobook is 21 hours of miscommunication and moping. I swear to god, we could have cut at least 10 hours out of this book if they just f***king talked to each other. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind some miscommunication, but we legit had some characters say like 7 words to each other the whole f***ing book. Somehow Lucky was the most mature out of all of them, but they all just ended up pissing me off to the point where I couldn't continue reading anymore.
Edan was the dumbest character I think I've ever read, she never learned and continued to make the same mistakes over and over again and those mistakes kept putting her and everyone else in danger. If she wasn't loved by the hoard of horny men, she probably would have been kicked off the compound expeditiously. Her inner monologue was repetitive and self-pitying and it got boring to read. Once again, if the author just edited the book it would have been better, it went on for too long.
The men... meh. A lot of bark and absolutely no bite for all the men which gets old to read. GIMME SOME BACK BONE DAMN IT. I continued reading because there was a promise of BDSM since that's how all the men met and was a common interest/theme, and while the smut scenes were good it had very little BDSM and mostly just a little rough sex and discussion of kink play and boundaries (which 10/10 for that). Considering one of the men had a "room of toys" I expected more.
**SPOILER**
I stopped reading with about 1.5 hours left when Edan basically started to lead all the men to their deaths since they were going to Cyanide City after she explicitly told Sam they wouldn't. I read another review that said the second book ends with a cliffhanger, and at this point I can't be bothered to continue reading.

Book 2 of the Brutes of Bristlebrook series, with book 1 ending in such a cliffhanger I had to find out what happened next!
I cannot think of a time where I have ever read anything like this before, the premise of this is so unique. I am used to dystopian apocalyptic stories having a supernatural element in one way or another, and this doesn’t, and I think I love that!
This is set in the world after it has been wiped out by “day death” where there was a mass attack on all countries, almost wiping the whole population out, the governments fell and then the people left behind had to survive for themselves.
We follow Eden, Beau, Dom, Jayk, Lucky and Jasper. The men are ex military who were all at the same kink club when the world ended, and Eden, a librarian who they saved, have fallen in to their world. Not only is Eden having to learn about survival, fighting for her and others lives, she is also having to love 5 men, who all have very specific tastes.
This is one of those rare stories where it has heavy spice scenes but there is also a plot running through it that keeps you engaged. I find it’s a real rarity to find a book that really looks at BDSM whilst also having this overarching plot. Oh and it most definitely does look into that world, the spicy scenes in this are not for the faint of heart. I cannot explained some of them online…..
I went into this series thinking it would be something totally different to what it is, but I love it! I need to know what happens to Eden and the Brutes. We see so much of the dynamics between them all developing throughout this that I just know the next book is going to be such a rollercoaster following the emotional ending that this had.
Whilst on the surface this is a dystopian spicy rh novel, it has a much deeper look into dynamics and relationships, and what we are willing to sacrifice for love, among other things….

The best part of this was the smut. The doc scene was very unique for these type of books and adds a star.
The rest of it annoyed the hell out of me. Eden was painful, and I just wanted your basic why choose, instead everyone has mental health issues and suddenly there are 80 women and 8 guys and 1 woman gets 5 lmao, it was dumb.
The point was they hadn't seen a woman in 3yrs.
The ending was as expected, and I am not interested in continuing the series.
