DID NOT FINISH: 40%

I just wasn’t really interested in the story.

Enjoyed this even more the second-time around. It has been so long since I read it, so I’d forgotten a lot of the small nuances of the story.
We get a whole load of perspectives in Carry In and it adds so much depth to the story. And I adore Simon and Baz, their relationship never feels rushed; it’s just so natural.
Can’t wait to dive into Wayward Son and see where that takes us.

Still don't know how I felt about this one - I do love Rainbow Rowell's style of writing but the plot of this one threw me a little bit, also mildly creepy on some things but I do love the Simon and Baz moments. Ordered Wayward Son after I finished reading because I'm still interested in how their relationships continue.

Encore un coup de cœur, et encore envie de le relire. Pour quoi est ce que la suite sort dans si longtemps ? (J'espère qu'elle sera traduite en français, parce que je n'ai pas le niveau pour la lire en VO.)

DID NOT FINISH

I feel like this will be the most controversial review but I just can't get into this. It doesn't seem to explain or introduce anything just launches into a stream of Simon's conciousness which I find really jarring. I do like the many British pop culture references and the humour in it but I found the writing style really off-putting with too much detail in some parts and then no explanation to move along the plot in other parts. Maybe it's just my frame of mind but I'm not feeling it :(

Le pondría un millón de estrellas si pudiera 💖❤️💖❤️💖❤️

I LOVE THIS BOOK SO MUCH!

This review won't make much sense because I'm kind of on the fence about how I feel...

So it's kind of hard to explain this book...it's fanfiction based on a book that is part of a fictional series in another work of fiction lol. So in Fangirl (also by Rainbow Rowell), the main character, Cath, is obsessed with a fantasy series and writes fanfiction based on the eighth (and upcoming) book in that series, and her fanfic is called Carry On.

Alright, so let's get into it...

What I don't like:

1. No context. So because this is fanfiction of the eight book in a series, I feel like there was so much context missing. It made me wish that I had read the other seven books first, but they don't exist :/

2. Confusing. Because of the above reason, I was pretty confused throughout the book. Who is the Humdrum? I'm still not completely sure.

3. Predictable. Because I read Fangirl first, I saw the main spoiler coming and I don't really like that.

4. Occasionally slow. I found some parts action packed, but a lot of it was pretty slow and boring.

What I like:

1. Fanfiction! Rowell did such a good job of imitating what fanfiction is like and it felt like I was actually reading one.

2. It was a quick read.

3. Adorable romance! I absolutely loved the main romance and the characters involved.

4. It reminded me of Harry Potter, probably because it's a fictional version of the already fictional Harry Potter series, but it made me feel a bit nostalgic.

Overall, the book was a bit meh because I'm torn between whether I like it or not.

3.5/5 stars

I was skeptical at the start but I ended up really enjoying this book. It was funny and the characters were well developed.
