Was a surprisingly quick and interesting read considering how long it was for a romance novel. I liked the characters and story even though it was a bit predictable through parts.

The build up, well let’s see it kept me interested and eager to read more. The only downside is how quickly it ended. However, not upset I picked this book up!

I wasn’t 100% sure on this book for a while. I really disliked Dom for a while. He seemed like more than just a grump. Usually they’re grumpy with a hint of sunshine to keep you hooked but we didn’t see his sunshine for a while. Dom and Ally first met when Dom came to the pizza shop where she works at to meet his mother for lunch. He was on his phone which breaks their rule for the pizza shop for no phones and ally was trying to tell him that when he got rude with her. They got into it a little and when she delivered his pizza she wrong FU on it. He demanded to see her manager who then fired her on the spot. She was worked up because she couldn’t lose another job right now. She was working 4 part time gigs and still not getting by. On the train she saw the same women who had been on a date with Dom. She offered Ally a job, another man on the train asked if she had any other jobs and she asked what he was capable of and he said he’d do anything and also was given a business card and to start when ally does. On ally’s first day her and train guy were both in the waiting room and he was so excited. Ally noticed right away how intimidated everyone seemed at this place. She met Dalessandro Russo who was the women from the train and the owner of the new fashion line that ally is now working at. Dalessandro told her she wanted ally to pay attention to things and give her opinion on how they could make things better. Ally also discovered Dom worked there and is Dalessandro a son. Dom wanted ally fired immediately but his mother told him he doesn’t have that power. Ally took her job seriously she needed a full time position like this and it was in the fashion industry which was what her previous job had been. Ally hits it off with a couple girls at the company. They all tell her how hot but cold Dom is. Ally is the first person to be at the company who will stand up to Dom and tell him how things are. Meanwhile while the hot and cold is going on between Dom and ally we begin to learn about ally. She has previously lived in Jersey as a graphic designer. Her father got dementia and it came quicker than they thought. His neighbors had been looking out for him but once he wandered away and was found 10 blocks away they put him in a care unit. It was awful and ally needed to get him out. She had him at a new facility where the care givers love her father and he has access to play piano on his good days. Her only problem is she’s behind $5000 on his care payments and the lady at the desk is mean about it and says if it’s not paid on time her father will be evicted. Ally has been keeping the house below 50 degrees, working the full time job, bartending and doing dance instructor. She’s also hardly been eating. Ally notices there is usually food at the meetings at work and takes advantage to eat as much as she can then since she can’t afford to eat. She’s also trying to renovate her dads home so she can sell it. Once she sells her dads home things should get a little better. Ally is reminded that the payment is due for her dad but her paycheck should hit and she’ll just scrape by. That is until they tell her something went wrong with her direct deposit and she won’t have it until Monday. She calls her best friend faith who owns a successful strip club and asks if she could work the rookie night. Faith gets so excited and tells her how good she’ll do. Ally loves to dance she just doesn’t usually do it naked but she needs this money for her dads care. After her show she’s told someone offered 5 K for a private dance, she finds out it’s Dom. Her and Dom have been playing the hot and cold game. They both know they’re attracted to the other and turn each other one. But Dom won’t give in. He doesn’t want to be like his father. His father would force girls without consent into things because of his power. When Dom and his mother found out they got rid of him and Dom took over his fathers position. They created a rule of no one of power was allowed to be with another associate which meant Dom could not be with ally no matter how bad he wanted to. Ally had walked in on him one night at the office jerking off to thoughts of her and saying her name. She begged him to fuck her and he begged her to leave so she gave him her panties and left. Ally gave Dom a lap dance in the private room and made him cum in his pants but he still wouldn’t give into her. She ran away in her heels but he followed her and insisted on taking her home. Home where she found out he had adopted one of the rescue dogs from one of their photo shoots. Home where she found he lived in a nice and homey house that was gorgous. Ally went home with him this night and she really thought things would happen and Dom shut her down again and she went home. Ally refused to take the money from doms lap dance but with just the cash tips she should be right there. When she went to pay mean front desk deena, she told her they don’t accept cash. Ally said she would need to go deposit the money. Deena kept making excuses and that’s when ally got an email that she was being promoted with a 5000 sign on bonus to be Doms new assistant. She had 5K in her checking and was able to sign a check and her dad was safe. When ally got to work she quickly realized this was Doms doing. He had sent his assistant Greta off on a vacation and wanted ally to be close to him and made the 5K sign on bonus a thing so she could pay her debt. At this point in time Dom doesn’t know what the money is for he just knows ally needs it. Ally cold turkeys Dom. She refuses to talk to him and he hates him. She had told him if he shut her out again she was done. I can’t remmeber if the strip club incident was before or after the fancy ball. Ally had worn a beautiful dress created by designer Christian whose event she was attending. Dom had tried to track her down all night (after strip club drfinitelt after strip club) but ally kept avoiding him. When Dom saw ally walk on stage with Christian he was filled with rage and got drunk. He asked ally to take him home. Drunk Dom was pulling at ally’s heart strings. He told her how beautiful she was and how she lights up the room when she walks in. He told her how he couldn’t stop imagining her naked but that wasn’t fair to her. But he wasn’t his father and he could never do that unless she quit. Ally told him she couldn’t afford to lose the job and Dom told her he couldn’t go farther with her as long as she works there. She got him tucked into bed and then took his car home. The next day her and faith used the car to get dry wall materials and Mexican and then they dropped it back off without him noticing. Dom kept telling ally they needed to talk but she kept avoiding him. Ally got a call that they needed help getting her dad to settle down he was getting violent. When ally got there he thought she was her mother and he slapped her. Ally was in shock but she still turned on the sound of him playing piano and got him settled down. Ally called off sick the next day at work. She didn’t want anyone to see the band print and swelling on her face that makeup couldn’t hide. Dom had checked in on her but she ignored his calls. That evening she went In to try to get a little work done since no one was there. A half hour in she felt a touch and knew it was Dom he demanded to know who had slapped her. She told him it was none of his business but he begged her. Ally confided in him about everything. That her dad had slapped her and it wasn’t his fault he didn’t mean to. But how she felt so lost that the one person whose loved her her whole life she’s losing. She said how she had hired a contractor to fix the house and he took her entire savings and left with it. How she was doing everything she could just to keep her dad somewhere safe. Her and Dom had sex for the first time in his office on the couch. Mind blowing, toe curling sex. Dom took her back to his house where they continued and then he told her he’d take her home to grab a couple days worth of things so she could stay the night. When they got to her house Dom wasn’t expecting what he saw. That ally was living in a cold and unsafe construction zone. He was so mad at her for not accepting his help. When he went up to her bedroom he saw she was sleeping under layers and layers of clothes and blankets just to stay warm and it angered him he told her to pack all of her things she wouldn’t stay there. Ally tried to fight him and tell him she couldn’t afford somewhere else and Dom told her he couldn’t stand to be at his house knowing where she was at night. Dom finally convinced her to pack a few days worth of things. That morning he called his mother and asked her to come over. He told his mom that him and ally are in a serious relationship and that he’d like to resign so that it was ok. Ally was infuriated that he would offer that without discussing it with her first. Doms mother said she was going to talk to HR about their next step on how to make this legal and ok but that neither one of them was fired and that the 2 of them should work from home. When they went to work HR made them sign a few things. Ally was being moved to graphic design and one of her friends she’d made in the office would step in as Doms assistant. They were supposed to keep work as professional as possible but Dom didn’t want to keep Ally a secret. He sent out an email to let everyone know. Everyone was more excited about it. Dom worried that people would be judgy and mean but the only person who was was Malina who had wanted to sleep her way into power with Dom. Dom and Ally were riding a high. The sex was amazing. Dom had convinced her to stay at his place. He would sneak fancy pieces of clothes into her side of the closet. He was making room for ally in all parts of his life. He had never felt for a women like he feels for ally. On the weekends he would help ally renovate her house because she refused to let him pay someone to do it. Dom had to go away on a business trip and demanded ally not go to the house while he was away it was unsafe. When he came home he took her downstairs where he had had a fancy piano delivered for her. He then took her to her dads house where he had a contractor come in and fix the house so it was ready for a buyer. She was upset with Dom for doing this but also so so thankful she told him she could never repay him. He took her and his dog brownie to his moms cabin getaway. They slept most of the weekend away. When they came back Doms mother called him in and said his ex Elena no longer wanted to be on their cover for May. Dom went to talk to her and he discovered that when he found out she was cheating it had been with his father. His father had cheated on his mother while also sleeping with his sons girlfriend. Elena confused that Paul Russo had threatened to leak her sex tape if she didn’t come to the cover for the magazine he’s now working for. She didn’t know he had made a sex tape. Dom went back to his mother and while she was frantic about what to do he suggested that his mother and some of the women who were attacked by his father keep hiding the secrets and air out their dirty laundry and stand up for themselves. Someone in the meeting had suggested using ally after all the publicity she was getting on Christian’s page. That’s when Dom saw that Christian had posted a picture of ally half naked on his bed. When he got home ally had dinner made and asked if he wanted to cuddle while they ate and he snapped. Told her how she was just trying to cover up that she cheated on him and get away with it. He showed her the picture of her on Christian’s bed and didn’t care to let her explain. Instead Dom accused her of using him. How she used him for his house and for his money and for his publicity. Ally had tried to do the exact opposite and take none of Doms handouts but he had demanded she stay with him. Ally told Dom he wouldn’t be able to take back any of these things he says to her that they’re final. He told her he wanted her gone by the time he got home from work. Ally only took the things that belonged to her and said a long sad goodbye to brownie. She sent her resignation into Doms mother active immediately. And tucked tail back to her dads house where faith brought tequila over to drown their sorrows. Doms mother called him immediately to tell him how much he was screwing up. She knew he was upset after talking to Elena and seeing his father again but that didn’t give him a right to say the things he did to Elena. Then his best friend Harry called and his wife was trying to give Dom advice and told him he fucked up big time. That he took all of Ally’s insecurities and secrets and hurled them right back at her and dug his claws in. Everyone at work despised him. Christian and faith came to see him and Christian said he didnt want to deliver this but thought it would make him feel worse. Ally couldn’t afford to buy Dom a gift so in trade she had done a photoshoot for Christian and Christian had made Dom a custom vest for his birthday. The vests had been Dom and Ally’s inside thing. She loved a man in a vest and before she had Dom he would wear them just to torture her further. She had done something so thoughtful and instead of letting her explain herself he just blew up on her and broke her heart. Ally realized how much she loved Dom. He sent her an email every day confessing things to her. When ally went to visit her father she was told that she had been nominated for a grant for the next 12 months of her dads care paid for. She listed the house and was given a cash offer. She moved into the neighbors guest bedroom. She then got a call from the mean front desk lady who told her she felt as if Ally needed to know that Dom had never bought lunch for everyone before her and all the snacks it started when she started. The computer and phone were out of Doms direct account not the companies. Dom had done all of these nice things for her and wanted no acknowledgment of it. Dom came into the pizza shop Ally was part timing at. She begged her boss to let her do the pepperonis. But when she walked back out Dom was gone and in his place were folders. Folders that told her the house is hers that no one can take the memories from her. I can’t remmeber what all was in the folder besides that but it was a really sappy moment and she boxed the pizza up and tore down the street where she found Dom and was able to hand him the pizza that said I heart you in pepperonis and they confessed their love for each other. A year or so later they went on their trip to the country that required a passport. Ally said that was her goal was to be able to drink a mango margarita on a beach somewhere that required a passport and Dom took her there. When he went to get her another maragarita she told him to make sure it was a virgin and announced they were pregnant and Dom was so excited and it made her feel better because she was so worried he wouldn’t be happy. Faith and Christian stepped out of the bushes and yelled at him that he was supposed to signal before he proposed and Dom yelled because he hadn’t proposed yet. So then he got down on one knee and asked Ally to marry him after just finding out they were pregnant. He then showed her a selfie of him witn her dad and the ring box. He visited every day until there was a good day to ask her fathers permission to marry her. Insert crying like that is so sweet. Another year later they had their daughter maya and Dom said he had somewhere to take them. He took her to her dream house on the corner. Ally had always loved that house. The family always seemed happy. The holidays the house was bursting with love and she had told that to Dom once. So when he pulled out the keys for the house she was so confused and he told her it was theirs. Dom bought ally her dream house. 10 years later Dom and Ally now had 2 dogs and 4 kids. Maya was the only one they had but they ended up adopting 3 siblings. 2 boys and a girl. They had the house full of noise and love. Although Ally had lost her father she was so thankful for the love she now had. So now the reasoning for the title by a thread is one Dom and his mother own a design company. But 2 ally had stated multiple times being by a thread. Whether it was financials or when Dom kept pushing her limits she was dangling by a thread of wanting him and falling for him. I didn’t love this book at the beginning is why I give it a 4. Dom just came off as such a major ass but then as we started to get through the book we saw how he cared about ally eating and her mode of transportation and how he snapped when he saw the hand print on her face and how he was willing to give up his job for her. We saw past all the armor he had put up from his dad hurting him over the years and how he had such a big heart and ally was able to get to it and how their 4 babies were able to get to him too. So not my favorite Lucy score book but definitely still good. I think the title grumpy grump face would have been super fitting and funny as well because that’s exactly how Dom started out. Getting a girl fired over pepperonis arrangements.
