Classic JQ, and an excellent follow-up to Because of Miss Bridgerton.

I found myself a little weepy at points in this book, which is always (for me) the hallmark of any great romance.

Cecilia's character is good and kind and open with Edward (except for, well...you know.) It was refreshing to see that kind of open sweetness. It hurt when he treated her so poorly after her brother died. I understand his reasons, of course, but it was still painful to see Cecilia so completely alone in the world.

I am very excited to see the next installment in the Rokesby series. THAT CLIFFHANGER, THO, JQ! Gah. Killin' me.

While You Were Sleeping is definitely one of my favorite movies ever, so I LOVED the premise of this book! I really appreciated the fact that Cecelia loved dresses and was also logical. There was no 'I'm-not-like-the-other-girls' that I can remember in the novel, coloring any of her interactions. Instead, she actually feels quite insecure about conforming to femininity compared to Edwards BFF, Billie Bridgerton. So that was a cute subversion, I thought.

4.5 stars

I usually love Julia Quinn, but I found this story really creepy. If the sexes were reversed then what would people have thought? It wouldn't be considered so romantic.

I admire her for trying out a new environment. However, I can see much better ways to have written a fake marraige plot.

In the end I couldn't warm to Cecilia.

A lovely retelling of the marriage of convenience/pretend marriage trope. Julia Quinn has done a beautiful job with the Bridgertons and this prequel is every bit as good.

One small point - I couldn't understand why Lady Margaret didn't inquire into Cecilia's health when they were unable to attend the gathering. As his godmother and certainly a force in his life, for her to remain absent as long as she did felt off to me. In spite of that, I loved this story from start to finish. In fact, I fell in love with Rokesby, and I don't have a lot of book boyfriends, so well done.

I liked Edward, but Cecilia was quite annoying with all her lies. I wish she had told him earlier, it would have been interesting to see them work it out. The way the story goes you just lose all respect for both of them - for her for doing this and for him for not questioning her behavior. Really he didn't need ANY proof of a life changing event? No documents? Not even a specific date when it happened?
Still enjoyed the book very much, I just have doubts about HEA of a relationship that started with that big of a lie.
