Cecilia Harcourt is devoted to her brother. While Thomas Harcourt is away fighting for England in America, she diligently writes to him. Thomas' best friend and fellow soldier Captain Edward Rokesby also eagerly awaits Cecilia's letters. Over the years Edward and Cecilia have come to know each other through little notes added to Thomas' correspondence.

Cecilia's father dies and then she receives news that Thomas is injured and missing, she sets off for New York to find him. Instead of finding her brother, she discovers Edward unconscious and fevered in hospital after a head injury. Wanting to offer aid, she says she's his wife, as only family members are allowed inside.

Thomas regains consciousness but has no memory of the past few months. He recognises Cecilia from a miniature portrait Thomas had shown him, and when she says they married by proxy at Thomas' request, he can't discount the possibility, though it seems unusual.

Cecilia feels guilty, especially when she knows Edward's innate sense of honour will force him to marry her in truth when his memory returns.

The two MC's have been falling for each other through their letters for ages, though they are both treading carefully as "newlyweds" for several reasons.

This book contains descriptive love scenes.

this book was good
a nice reprieve from the usual historical romances that all turn to be very similar
but
i missed how similar they were :(
i miss thé ton and the family houses and the bridgertons and the sibling rivalry’s we always get to see
as good as this book was i did feel it was more emotional and was missing the banter i love between the two main characters :(
i also can’t help but slate how edward found out i thought it was actually quite a boring way of going about it? idk i just assumed it would be a bigger climax than that, that said the ending was very cute and i cannot fault it
especially the little cliffhanger now i have to know the consequences of andrew!!

This was a light, entertaining read set in the Bridgerton world—specifically, the Roxby family's story, which takes place before the main Bridgerton series and even includes a few familiar family members. The plot follows Cecilia, who travels to America during the Revolutionary War in search of her injured brother, only to find his unconscious (and very injured) best friend—a high-ranking British officer. To care for him, she pretends to be his wife, which gets complicated when he wakes up with no memory.
The setup reminded me a bit of While You Were Sleeping—a mix of mistaken identity, romantic tension, and comedic timing. It’s a silly, sweet story with a happy ending. That said, it felt longer than necessary at times. Still, if you enjoy the charm and drama of the Bridgerton universe, this is a fun addition to the world.

Cecília você é perfeita, entenda!
O casal mais perfeito dessa série até o momento!
Impossível não torcer para um final feliz?

Celia Comes to America in search of her brother. She can't find him, but find his friend who she has been writing to Edward. She finds him in the hospital unconscious and nurses him back to health. She pretends to everyone including Edward that she has married him in order to find out where her brother is at. I really liked it and the progress of their relationship.

No tengo palabras para decir que lo ame. Los amo a ambos, sentía pena y amor, y más que nada miedo de lo que iba pasar.
Real se nota mucho como Julia cambio su escritura y pudo hacer personajes decentes a pesar de la época.
