The writing was great. This was my second Daniel May book, and I can safely say I like his writing style. However, the beginning was a little chaotic, in the way that things were happening real fast from the get-go, and there were these, um… paranormal elements, that didn’t get explained until 70% or so. It felt like I’d missed reading a prequel, sometimes.

This one took me a while to get into, and I almost DNF'd it about 15% in but I'm glad I didn't. Our MC Tobias is just so loveably absurd, I reaaaaallly liked the banter and overall goofiness of the plot at times. Ugh that I have to actually wait for the next one!

daniel may doesn't disappointed. This was soooo good, I already want to know what happens next.
Somehow I missed the part of the book’s description where it mentioned it was an age gap romance, which I’m not a fan of at all. One of the MCs is in his 50s, with at least 3 grown children. Hard pass.
Aside from my issues with huge age gaps, this was also just a boring story. After finished the first chapter, it still felt like nothing had actually happened. Just a big meh for me.

This is not your normal crime boss romance. The writing is elegant and builds the tension so slowly you don't realise you're on the edge of your seat until you've fallen on the floor. And then there's the sonnetag. My goodness.
