Holy cow!!!! That ending made me so stoked for the next one!!! First green flag for this book is that it’s a romance between a with and a demon and he calls her “Witchling.” I’m a Dorian girly so I was ALL over that. Honestly, it got a 4 star rating but had 5 star potential. I just needed more- more character development, more world building, more academia details, just more. I kinda struggled with picturing the school and I’m still a bit confused on the size of the student population. She could have added another hundred pages to this and I would have ate it up. I’m still a bit confused and think there were a few plot holes, and despite that it’s still at least a 4 star book and the premise for book 2 is going to be my jam and I am pumped! I love a good spicy, spooky, witchy dark romance. Book 2 is going to be a fantastic fall read after it comes out in August. Eek!!!

I picked this book up at an airport because the publisher did a great job making this book beautiful for Halloween decor and I needed a book for the plane. Witchcraft, vampires, haunted garden vibes? Totally my vibe! No! No!!! I really need these "dark fantasy" books with non consensual or abuse plot lines to be better marked or in a different genre section than romance. Y'all this was next to the EMILY WILDE BOOKS! I realize that this book had a trigger warning but having it after the dedication and author's note means I didn't see it until after purchasing, which feels icky. Also to be fair, this rating is not just my hatred of those plots. The world building also made no sense. I was confused in almost every aspect of the actual plot. Knowing me though, I might still read the next one cuz I hate quitting a story in the middle AND IT ENDED ON A CLIFFHANGER. Ugh. Just thumbs down. *cries in gorgeous bookshelf hypocrisy

4.5 stars. High rating because it actually sucked me in but the world building needs help.

I will start off by saying I think the school should have been flushed out more. What are all the colors? What do they stand for? How many students actually attend? I think if she would have done a bit more world-building here, it would have elevated the story.

But now….. BOYYYYY.

SPOILERS:

That plot twist?? Smacked me right in the face. I’m a little confused on why charlotte said “help me fix this” right in front of the problem?? **Lucifer** but idk maybe it’ll be better explained in the next book? Anyways, is this life changing??? No. But did I enjoy it? Hell yeah.

It took a while for it to grasp my attention, but that ending went crazy! so im most def reading the next book!

So, so bad. Every trope put into one with NO reasoning. Just vibes and no plot but not in a good way.
