It was boring and really dragged. The characters weren't interesting or memorable.

Giving this one a solid 4 stars. I enjoyed the characters and the storyline but there were things I wanted more of or more fleshed out. Like the fake dating (I think only happened for one date), Brenna’s issues with her dad (I would have love to have more scenes between them), Summer and Brenna (my favorite female friendship in this whole Briar universe), Brenna’s internship!!! I just would have love to see more of that stuff.

Soooooo steamy. Definitely some forbidden love vibes with Brenna and Jake. I really loved Brenna’s development and learning to trust Jake and I love Jake opening up as well.
3.5/5 🌶️

I wanted to read this book because my goal last year was to discover new authors. Elle Kennedy was on that list. I really enjoyed The Chase and The Deal. But this one just sort of flopped.

This book has two points of view. The first one is Brenna Jenson. We met her in the first book, and she is the Coach’s daughter at Briar U. Everyone says she is a bad girl. They are only partly right – she doesn’t let fear rule her and she doesn’t care what people think. But she draws the line at sleeping with the enemy. She would be the villain if she hooked up with a player from a rival team. That is Jake Connelly. He is Harvard’s star player. And she needs help to get a much-coveted internship. The second point of view is Jake Connelly. He doesn’t do girlfriend or relationships, his focus is on hockey. He is determined to get his team to the championship and to beat Briar’s star team. When Brenna comes walking into the dive bar and asks for a favour, Jake wants to make sure he gets a decent deal. For every fake date that Brenna wants to try and get this internship, Jake wants a real date with her. Which means Brenna is in trouble. Nothing good can come from sneaking around and everything is on the line for both.

I was looking forward to reading this book. However, this one just didn’t suck me into this story. I felt like it was a repeat of the first book, but instead of a fashion show, it was an internship with fake dating. I usually love fake dating, but they did two dates and then that was it, it became real. I would have loved more of the fake dating and maybe some college parties or hockey games. There was one hockey game which was THE hockey game. I just wanted more. I felt like Brenna didn’t get her full bad girl description – it was just “I don’t give a shit” attitude and I'm sitting on hockey players laps to make them jealous but there was nothing bad she did. I didn’t like the whole bitchy thing with Hazel and her being the cause of the third-act breakup which drives me nuts as is it. And what I've seemed to notice with Elle Kennedy’s hockey books – is that the third act breakup lasts like five days, but they all describe it as “an eternity.”

I liked Coach Jenson, the chapter with him crying broke me. I liked seeing the boys back and seeing the hockey games. I also liked the storyline of girls trying to get into sports – as a girl who follows multiple sports (football, rugby league, darts, boxing and can pretty much get into any sports depending on how much time I have) - I liked seeing Brenna stand up for herself. But I would have loved for some big kick off between the HockeyNet boss and someone sticking up for Brenna – could have been the whole hockey teams, her dad, Jake.

Overall, I was disappointed in this book and I'm probably in the minority of people who didn’t love this book, but I will carry on with the series and we will have hope for the next book.
