super strong start to a series, i can see the groundwork being laid with the characters and i like that celaena uses her head rather than being swept away with romance. the one star it’s missing is purely for vibes, it just didn’t have that one special thing to hook me in. i do love a trope of “she could have him why would she choose me”, i think it’s very sweet and tender and can’t wait to see where everything goes from here!!

Thought the main character is kinda up her own ass the whole time, she constantly is talking up on herself about being the best assassin ever and yet she seems to suck lol. I however like her development as a character as well as the other main characters. The story in itself is ok, kinda didn't make sense that if she's this crazy assassin that did this super wrong this to land herself in prison, that she would be able to have any chance to win her freedom. Lack of Rated-R is a breath of fresh air compared to other Sarah J. Maas books. I truly hope it gets better than this as there are like 6 other books in the series.

I quite enjoyed this book. I love the strong female characters and how well they balance physical and mental strength. I'm looking forward to reading the next one.
