The first in this series is just the beginning of a great adventure.
Nečekala jsem tak dobrou mangu. Rozhodně mě to překvapilo a Alladin je prostě zlato.
A running start!
I really like how this book plunges you right into the new world with action and mystery.
The story starts out at a good pace and quickly ramps up as you get toward the end of the book. I can't wait to see what happens next.

The story was very average in terms of Manga. Main character with special abilities meets others, and they go on adventures together, etc. What sets it apart is the Arabian Nights influence on the setting and characters. However, it seems that the writer was not very familiar with Arabian Nights, and the influence is only really cosmetic. A character name from the stories is used here and there, but they are not the original characters from Arabian Nights stories. Rather the author's creation that simply uses the name. Case in point: Arajin is the main character, a young boy with a flute. But the flute actually hides his friend, Ugokun the jinn. Arajin meets Aribaba, and they become friends. After getting into deep financial trouble, they decide to explore a nearby dungeon and look for treasure. The story and situations are not really that complex, and it seems that the manga is aimed at the Shonen Jump crowd. The art is cute and typical, and the characters are all comedic and cool. It was not a bad manga at all, but it was average. Bearing in mind that this is only the first book in the series, it is a charming book, but I am not sure my interest has been piqued enough to continue the series.
This was a decent start, I'm curious to read more.

Buenísimo, me he partido de risa en varias ocasiones y eso no me pasaba con un manga desde hacía mucho tiempo. Esto promete.
Debating whether to carry on with this series...I might try and read the second volume at least and see if I still want to continue after that.
The thing with manga first volumes is that the story is nowhere near it. Things happen, of course, but they mostly happen so we'll get to know the characters and setting, you know, the interesting bits. In this case, those bits are not so interesting. The characters felt rather flat, in a gag-manga sort of way, the setting was supposed to be a generic arabian something, only the author did no research at all so it really looks like japanese people LARPing.
And I'm not even gonna talk about how women are represented.
In sum, it might be pretty and have some gags and action, but Magi is not a really good manga and I'm not gonna bother buying the second volume to see if it gets any better.
