The Miracle Morning: The Not-So-Obvious Secret Guaranteed to Transform Your Life: Before 8AM
Hal Elrod
This is a great book. I read it a few years ago and never did any of the actionable advice. Fast forward a couple of years and listening to Hal's podcast I decided to read it again.
It gives advice on the so called "Miracle Morning", a series of techniques to start every day so that you can achieve your goals. They are called the "SAVERS", which stands for Silence, Affirmations, Visualisations, Exercise, Reading and Scribing (or Journalling). They are techniques that have been used for years but Hal has a great way of explaining how to do it, and what the benefits of doing so are. It can be done in either 6 minutes (only on rare occasions) or an hour. It can also be done in any order that suits your schedule.
So, if you find that you are not living a life you want and don't know how to make a change, then please read this. (And checkout Hal's podcast too http://halelrod.com/podcast/)

The Miracle Morning routine must be felt to be convinced of its amazing benefits for body, mind and soul. Embracing many familiar ‘musts’, such as exercise and meditation, its strength resorts in its amazing practicality. No beating around the bush with moral haughtiness: only a clear no nonsense challenge, divided in 6 life S.A.V.E.R.S. Like any formula, it doesn’t just work on it’s own: only you can do the working part. Hal Elrod lays it out so modest and so convincingly sincere – countering any mental resistance before it pops up – that you just might want to give it a try. Especially when one feels ready for a real change!

It doesn't feel innovative, but it works for me. A good recipe based on the typical ingredients. Meditation, sport, reading, writing, affirmation and visualization.
I like what Hal is saying, and I am actually doing the practice, but he's writing style isn't great. He tends to repeat himself and, in a book this short, it doesn't really work.

This book could have easily been a TED Talk. It was rather redundant.
I have found there's a couple types of self-help books. Those that are teaching a concept or lifestyle and do so with stories and/or science. And those whose authors have discovered a trick that works for them and they spend more of the book trying to sell this trick to you than teach anything.
I dislike the second kind - I always stop after chapter 2 if they're still selling.
This is the first book that I thought was going to be type #2 that I ended up liking. He does do some selling, but he backs it up with real content that I found very helpful. The online tools he introduces are also useful and that is why I'm giving Miracle Morning 5 stars
