Ada Twist, Scientist by Andrea Beaty

Ada is a child who constantly asks "Why" and "How" as she tries to figure out the world. It's quite charming to watch her maneuver her world and discover more and more. She isn't one who gets easily discouraged, and it was nice to have a book where the parents and sibling adjust to better understand her instead of her being alone. The book is a little long, but would work well for more patient or older readers.

For: readers looking for a book celebrating discovery and science.

Possible red flags: some readers may not appreciate Ada's way of figuring things out--drawing on the walls.

I adore the rhyming and theme (female/minority + STEM) and the toddlers seemed entertained. My spouse walked in on the page where Ada Twist is writing on the walls and was not as amused as our youngest had walked off with a crayon a few days ago and decorated our TV.

Very cute, I've really enjoyed Beaty's series encouraging young ones to explore some seriously awesome fields (science, engineering, architecture). Ada Twist is seriously cute and definitely a curious young girl, and I liked how her family had to learn to keep up with her. Overall very good.

Het lievelingsboek boek van mijn dochter. Zij wordt óók wetenschapper, want ze lijkt op Ada - qua uiterlijk én slimheid-. Als een boek dat te weeg kan brengen ben je voor mij onbetaalbaar.

Good rhyming read-aloud. Older kids will enjoy solving the mystery of the stink.

A truly excellent story in verse about a young girl with a passion for exploration, and the supportive collaboration of her family when they realize the best way to handle her curiosity is to join in her scientific quests! This is a book both for the kids who will love the story and illustrations, and the parents who need the reminder to let their children broaden their own worlds.

Not as strong or cohesive as the preceding titles in this series, perhaps because the duties of a scientist are a bit more broad than those of an architect or engineer. At the very least, I wanted Ada to discover the source of the unpleasant smell through her dogged questioning and research.
