This one fucked with me. There was so much tension and confusion and frustration…just emotion overall. I watched the movie before I knew it was a book, and as usual, the book is better(though I did like the movie).
My only (small) critique is with Wen’s death. That was such a major, emotional thing and I felt like there could’ve been just a bit more focus given to it.

I made the dire mistake of watching the movie before reading the book, and was gut punched by the differences. I thought I had to plot and ending already all mapped out in my head, but when it came time to it, I was utterly devastated. Almost to the extent I didn't know why to contue on. Yes, the book was good. It made me want to keep reading up until the gut punch, but I can't imagine ever having the heart to reread this and go through that all over again. Some would say this is a big winner for a book.

The first scenes were tense and gripping. Sort of lost its pace near the middle, but it was still interesting. Lots of graphic violence. Reflective ending.

I went into this looking for spooks and tension. While I found an embarrassment of tense riches, I didn’t get spooks so much as existential philosophical horror. Brutal, bloody, barbaric and sad, this was maybe too much for me, purely because of the questions raised and feelings produced. I enjoyed it overall and the middle was so strong, but by the end I wanted it to finish. My misgivings are driven by my own tastes - otherwise, really enjoyable and I see why people love this so much!

I liked the book, but I do wish the ending was a little longer.
