Gosh. The twins looked so messed up! I like the anime better. Haruhi doesn't look right too. I really wanted this to be less of all the first episodes bundled into one. It was aggravating.
It's Ouran High School Host Club. It's five stars.
I've watched the anime about a hundred times. I watch it all the time. It's one of my favorite shows, and genuinely one of the funniest things I've ever watched. When I heard the anime followed very closely to the manga and that the manga goes beyond the anime, I decided I wanted to pick it up.
I've been skeptical in general about reading manga because I generally prefer my graphic novels lively and colorful (like I Hate Fairyland, for example). But to try out manga, there was really no better one to start with than Ouran High School Host Club because I'm so familiar with the anime.
I really enjoyed it. Like I said, the anime and manga are pretty similar, sometimes word for word. But it's still a little different. I still found myself laughing at it—and it would be a major problem if I wasn't laughing at it because the show is HILARIOUS. I admit, I feel like I might have found it confusing and hard to follow if I hadn't already seen the anime. Like, I think a few bits it was kind of confusing what was going on, but since I knew what was happening from the anime, I was able to follow. I wonder if this will be something I get used to the more I read or if after the manga passes how far the anime went, I'll be confused. We'll see.
At the end of the first two episodes, apparently there was a poll for favorite character and THE TWINS CAME IN LAST. (But first for second favorite character, interestingly enough.) This is a travesty because the twins are the best and the funniest and this better change as more episodes came out. I'm a little sad they don't have the same hair that they do in the anime. AND episode 4, with Renge (queen), the line in the anime is different. Hikaru's line, "And another thing. How come this stupid script portrays Kaoru as the pitcher," is honestly one of my favorite lines in the ENTIRE anime, and it's different in the manga. The reference is still there, with Haruhi wondering about "offense." But it's just not the same. It's also a lot more subtle. But alas.
Anyway, I will definitely be continuing with this manga. Because it's Ouran High School Host Club. Duh.

I loved the comedy aspects of this manga. There are more layers in the character dynamics and I like the play on stereotypes. I was reminded why I liked the anime show so much. Might even give the anime another go since I like how characters look in anime better than manga.

This was my first manga, and it was a lot of fun once I felt more comfortable with how to read it. I want the other volumes and to watch the anime!
