3.64 AVERAGE

I'm actually torn on my rating and am leaning towards more of a 3.5 because while I enjoyed the next novel in the series a lot more, I barely ever put this one down. Admittedly some of the cheesier moments had me groaning, including the speed at which things occurred, and I know that to get the full character and world building I desire I have to read more of the series, just because that's how it's laid out, but I don't have too much of a problem with that. I would just like to have seen a bit more in the first book as a general set up for the rest of the series so I wouldn't have to rely on the next books as much. And while I didn't dislike either Ashlyn or Maddox, neither were characters that I particularly related to or desired, but all in all I generally enjoyed devouring it as an entertaining romance and do want to read the rest of the series, especially those about the Lords I did find more intriguing from a distance. Would recommend to someone as a "I'm just going to sit back and read something fun today, but a bit of gore and drama would be nice" kind of book.

Good things last, l'ambientazione è interessante. Come per Dark Lover, la storia d'amore anche no, ma il background anche sì. E Disastro è decisamente il mio spirito animale.

I had attempted to read this book in the past (many years ago), but I couldn’t get into it. Recently, it went on sale for kindle so I decided to give it a try. I am so glad that I did. This book was funny and sweet. The romance was nice as well. I really enjoyed the Lords. I thought they all brought something interesting to the story. I can’t tell which is my favorite. Torin is probably up there though. Kane was also funny (and a kindred spirit so to speak).

I couldn’t decide whether or not to give three or four stars. There were some moments that seemed… Well, it took me out of the novel. However, the book was still entertaining (which is why I bought it in the first place). I will definitely have to look into the other books in the series.

I just love when the first book of a series just sucks you in. Don't you? This is one such story. Just reading about the tormented men who make up the Lords of the Underworld made me want to find out about all of them finding their happy ending after making such a grievous mistake of opening Pandora's box.

This story held my attention from beginning to the end and left me salivating for more. The only thing I didn't like was the weird choppy way Maddox and Ashlyn spoke during sex. I understand it gets pretty intense sometimes and the words just don't seem to come out right, but it was just so... weird to me. Otherwise this was such a great read with plenty of action, romance, and of course steamy bits (lol gotta love those steamy bits).

I especially like this version of Pandora's Box, and what happened after the evils escaped the box. I will most definitely be continuing this series. I've already bought book 2 (lol).

So I decided to read this book on a whim. It was free due to my audible escape monthly trial, so I figured why the heck not.

The premise and world building sounded hella interesting. The idea of warriors being possessed by different demons from Pandora’s box, sounded unique and I couldn’t wait to dive into the story.

Though a quick read, I was instantly turned off in the first chapter. But mama didn’t raise a quitter, so I decided to keep trekking on.

Maddox has the vocabulary of third grader, and could only focus on three things:violence, fucking Ashlyn, and fucking Ashlyn. His inner monologues were repetitive, and I honestly couldn’t comprehend his instant obsession with her. But I guess after sustaining from physical contact for so long, Maddox was willing to cling to anything with breasts and a vagina.

Ashlyn was no better. She fell head over heels the moment she realized Maddox could silent the voices in her mind. She was always horny, her nipples always hard and ready to poke an eye out. The fact that she was willing to sacrifice her life after knowing Maddox for two days made me want to karate chop her in the head. Was the dick honestly that good, that she was willing to die for it? Or was this her inexperience talking?

The fact that they fell in love after two days was eye roll worthy, and both characters were honestly too stupid and horny to live. Maddox treated Ashlyn like a child, and Ashlyn took it, under the pretense that she was being spoiled and treated like a princess.

Gid's my fav Lord except for Kane whose book is sadly the last in the series :(

So I've actually read the beginning of this book three time, but the first time I tried to read it was via book club hardcover and I received one of those rare copies where someone screwed up in the binding, so I'm reading along and I get to the really good part and suddenly I'm reading a regency romance by a different author, from the middle. I probably should have kept the copy because let me tell you is that ever jarring. It actually took me another year or two to come back to the series at all because through no fault of Showlater's I was beyond angry at the story that in my copy ended right in the middle. Eventually I came back to the series of course and this is my second time reading an entire copy of The Darkest Night.

I think most paranormal romance fans are also fans of the tortured hero because I've honestly never read a demon, vampire, werewolf or other paranormal creature character who didn't have a tragic past, and who was peachy with their current circumstances. So obviously when I encountered a character like Maddoc who's not only possessed by the demon of violence, but also cursed to be murdered by two of his friends and taken to hell every night I'm intrigued. Ashlyn was a little naive for my taste and the way she's so accepting of her own tragic past doesn't really work for me but I didn't dislike her character either if that makes any sense.

What I really loved about the story is that yes there's a romance in it but a good portion of the book is setting up a larger series and allowing us to get to know a whole cast of characters and warring factions. That set up and the plot outside of the love story is what I think makes this one a great read. Definitely recommended.
