I gave it four stars, but I really wish I could it 3.5. It was entertaining and went quickly. We'll see how much of the series I can read before I get bored with it.

3.5 ⭐

I always love rereading this first one. I think Showalter does a vomit of information because she introduces *all* of the Lords within the first book. PLUS she introduces legit the first 3 women who will be the love interests. Crazy shitload of info. But I admire it because you could always reference the first book to see how they’re characterized.

The romance between Ashlyn and Maddox is pretty much instantaneous. I actually am not a fan of insta love because I feel like there is no build of character or relationship. Yet as I read this first one, I felt like they knew each other for months. When in actuality, THEYVE ONLY JUST KNOWN EACH OTHER FOR APPROXIMATELY A WEEK. A week! Isn’t that psycho? Not gonna lie, I would fall for any of the Lords so hard.

One of the characters I actually don’t like is Anya. I’ve never liked her and I’m always dreading reading her and Lucien’s story. They disinterest me the most for some reason. Of course every character has a backstory but theirs is just not something I really strive to read about. I know if I skip it I’ll miss some info for the next book.

All of these books can be considered stand alones because they’re individual couples but the storyline and pieces are supposed to be read in order.

The saddest line is when Maddox says he would get Ashlyn Tylenol when she’s dying. Like how cute is that? He really thinks Tylenol (a medicine I’ve actually never taken) will fix six stab wounds. Gotta love the naivety.

I’m also always happy to see their mansion full and cannot wait time get later in the books when the characters are intermingling more. Right now, they hate each other’s guts lol.

Ashlyn has a decent enough of a backbone and I think she works well with Maddox. His personality still overshadows hers but she also knows when to back down because she knows she’s merely human. If she can fight her stance, she will but if she knows she really cannot, she stands down. I think that’s admirable because she recognizes when she can’t win a fight.

Maddox also listens to her and recognizes moments where he’s being irrational with her. Like with his friends, he finally apologizes. Something he never does, which caught Lucien off guard. He tries to workout agreements with Ashlyn even though he doesn’t have the power to do anything if it’s not in his jurisdiction.

I just love this couple.

Series: Lords of the Underworld Book 1

My Rating: 4 Fangs!!!!

A great start to a new series! Ashlyn is a very amazing woman, but she has a curse of her own. She can hear any words that have been spoken aloud. She loves Maddox from the moment she sees him. Maddox is a very strong character that i absolutely fell in love with. He reminds me of the brothers from the Black Dagger Brotherhood. In fact this series has the making to be an incredible series quite like the BDB.

There is also a very awesome group of bad guys, they are hunters trying to get rid of the demons that inhabit the Lords. So they have set out to find the box that housed the demons before they were set free. Personally i like getting to see the hunters as the bad guys for a change. Much like Larissa Ione’s Demonica series, in the sense of demons being the good guys and the hunters being the bad guys.

In this series you will recognize the story of Pandora’s Box. Just its a bit different from the children’s story we all know. When the Lords opened the box they let some unimaginable creatures free. Because they let out the demons they were all cursed with a demon of their own. Maddox’s demon-Violence is the one that killed Pandora, and so the Gods cursed him to dying a truly Violent Death each night.

I won’t give anything else away. I really do believe that you guys will enjoy this Ongoing series.
mysterious

In this first book, we got to know a little about the warriors and their demons and also followed the love story of Maddox and Ashlyn.

I loved this book, as well as Dark Lover, the romance is built very quickly, let's say the couple has an instant connection - so if you don't like stories like that this book isn't for you - But it didn't hurt their chemistry that it was wonderful.

The book ends with a feeling of wanting more and that the story will develop further. I love that the next book comes soon to Lucien because he is already my favourite. And yes, it's mainly because he's called Lucien and reminds me of Lucien from ACOTAR

The Mary Sue-ness of the heroine became intolerable by 60%. Too bad because I enjoyed the concept and premise. It was definitely insta love, but it put me in mind of the Black Dagger Brotherhood which I really liked. Might try another in the series and see if the next heroine is better.

Interesting idea. Liked the author avoided over explaining the details. It was a bit bonkers, but fun enough I'm curious to keep going.
