This was a free nook book. It had all the buzz-words to reel me in “supernatural abilities”, “immortal warriors”, “mystical forces”, “historical undercurrents”, “Greek mythology” and of course “passion”. The concept of immortal warriors cursed to embody Violence, Death, Wrath, Passion, Pain and Disease etc., after they had released them from Pandora’s box, is exciting one. The demon and the men who shared their bodies are full of rich potential. Violence takes center stage in this novel and he is interesting. I wouldn’t say he was compelling, but a decent character. The human love interest was, frankly, overly delicate...a damsel in distress to an extreme. I found there were slow “filler” parts and, in a book under 300, you shouldn’t have a great deal of filler. I really wanted to like this book more, but I found it average. The idea is fun and I’ll buy the next one, hoping her writing matures.
Problematic at some many levels. This is one of the worst books I've ever read.

Not bad, Gena Showalter. I like this series better than the BDB, which there are clearly some similarities. I'll keep reading.

DNF @ about 45% or so. This might’ve been annoying to me because of how the narrator read the voices.
That and I just didn’t dig the characters. Plus the whole Paris thing is super gross.
Also - they’ve been around since the beginning of time and the only ones who seem to have picked up a damn book in that time is the death guy and the disease one. The rest sound super backward and I get that the women they’ll fall in love with (given how these types of things are written) will change that but it just feels tedious.
I read contemporary romance by this author and loved it. The guys were normal and great.
I’ve read other books with creepy ancient god dudes that are hot and sexy. There’s a balance that just isn’t struck in these.

This was awesome! A fantastic world has been created with intriguing and fascinating characters. I was totally into it!
There was a lot going on and being laid out. So many different characters were in play and being introduced as well as other storylines, I couldn't read fast enough as I absorbed this new world. There was drama and intensity, mystery and a nice amount of passion. I love all the other worldly elements that were learned and how everything came together. I feel like I need a chart to remember who is who because there were a lot of warriors and demons in play. It's a lot at once but it's still awesome.
Loved Maddox and Ashlyn. Really interesting characters dealing with different types of turmoil. They had an electric attraction. I loved the push and pull between the two as everything built and their story played out. I felt for both of them so much, the different pains they endured. The end was heartbreaking and uplifting at the same time.
I am so excited I finally started their series, I'm just sorry it took me so long. It's hard to explain with everything that was going on but I thought it all was great. Love the story, details, all the different warriors. Interesting world. I love a good paranormal romance and I think a fantastic foundation was laid for more stories in this series filled with sexy warriors. I can't wait to find out what happens next.

Hmm what can I say? I was expecting this book to be darker than how it actually turned out. I felt like Showalter was trying to go for that dark look but couldn't quite get it right. Her writing was soft and although she tried to portray Maddox as "dark" he just came off as the sweet guy with anger management issues. Reading this, I found myself constantly getting annoyed at Ashlyn. To me she didn't come off as that strong female character. Her stupidity sometimes...ugh. Even though I found myself rolling my eyes at some parts of the book, I did feel compelled to finish it. I've heard that this series gets better so I hope the second book is better than this one.
