I have to say I love this series!!!! It has everything I love in a good story. Mythology,Good Sex,and Sexy men. Hello it's in the sexy men bookshelves,Darkest Night tells the story of Maddox and Ashlyn. Thousands of years ago Demons escaped from hell, the demons were captured and put into a box to be guarded by a female warrior named Pandora, When twelve immortals warriors rebel against the Gods because they were not chosen to guard the box they kill the female warrior guarding it,releasing the evil from within. Not knowing that they will have to carry the evil within themselves. Violence, Pain, Death, Disease, Disaster, Misery, Doubt, Promiscuity, Defeat, Lies, Secrets, and Wrath. Now these sexy men have mortal enemies called Hunters,The Hunters want the Lords dead plain and simple.
Maddox is the keeper of Violence and I have to say I feel so sorry for him, he has to die each night and awake to relive the death again.
Ashlyn has a unique gift,she can hear the voices of people who were in the same space before her, and when she learns of the Lords she goes to their fort in Budapest and seek their help.When Maddox and Ashlyn first meet it's like love at first sight and they are made for each other, when I say made for each other I mean she calms his demon and he quiets her voices. Lots and Lots of obstacles they have to overcome, Hunters are still trying to kill them. Great Read and would recommend this book to anyone who loves a great series with lots of action and great SEX!!!!

Jfc this was stupid. I'm trying really hard to be open minded and give romance a chance as a genre but phew child authors like this make it hard. Stupid characters. Stupid dialogue. Nonsensical garbage plot. NIPPLES with minds of their own. The power of cock compels you, yadda yadda. I feel stupider for having spent time reading it.

Non mi aspettavo un granché da questo libro (non sono mai stata una fan del genere), ma devo ammettere che mi sono ricreduta. L'ho letto velocemente e senza troppi intoppi (l'idea generale mi è piaciuta tantissimo), quindi posso dire che ho molte aspettative per quanto riguarda il secondo libro!!

This book just wasn't good at all. The heroine was just terrible and acted like an idiot most of the time, not that the hero was any different. The writing felt really immature which made all of the characters feel the same way as well. None of the characters were interesting, and there was only one part that I even found humorous. I spent most of my time reading this book rolling my eyes or wondering just why the lead woman was so stupid. I was just not impressed, which makes me sad since the concept sounded amazing. Just another case of poor execution.
I couldn’t finish it. Just couldn’t. Too many characters speaking from their point of view. A lot information which wasn’t fully explained. It was frustrating to read
The Darkest Night is okay. It's saving grace was my interest in the plot's resolution for a couple things, namely the main climatic element which I won't discuss due to spoilers.
But I couldn't help comparing Showalter's world in The Darkest Night (btw what does that title even have to do with the story?) to J.R. Ward's in The Black Dagger Brotherhood...a group of paranormal "brothers" fighting an ancient war against a deeply prejudiced human group bent on their destruction; the brothers facing transformational and uncontrollable curses caused by their disobedience to the world's god forces; women who, in some way, save the "brothers" from their curses and inner turmoil. The main difference between the worlds of Showalter and Ward is that Ward's is much better, it's more believable and whole, thoroughly developed and researched, while Showalter's was very flat and, honestly, disappointing. I mean, the MCs fell in love in less than three days. The whole book took place over about THREE DAYS. Where is the plot depth? How am I supposed to believe the story and become absorbed in the fates of its characters when I can't forget that everything is happening over the course of three freakin days?
I'd rather just reread The Black Dagger Brotherhood.
