I really enjoyed this story especially the story line from the past. I hope more of her books become available here.

The story has a diverse group of characters and a dual story line. One story has to do with Gwen, a spinster, who lives an isolated existence and now has met a young man, who for some unfathomable reason has asked her to marry him. The second story has to do with a horrific event which occurred during the war.
The two stories are intermingled and you are led to believe that one is related to the other.
My main issue with the book is that the second story is told through emailed documents – between the two participants in the event. Why would they need to do that in such exacting detail? They were there. Made no sense to me. I will say that the story of what happened during the war was absolutely heartbreaking. I found it very depressing.
The current story had a disjointed feel and it was pretty obvious who the villain was relatively early on.
The Other Child had an interesting plot, the idea for the story was quite good. It just suffered in the execution.

Devo smetterla di accettare libri in prestito che:
- sono scritti da donne sessiste;
- hanno la trama di un "thriller" canadese che persino Cielo si vergognerebbe di mandare in onda;
- sono tradotti da persone che dimostrano di non sapere l'italiano (usando espressioni inesistenti tipo "l'ho sganciato per sfogarmi a piangere") e di non saper fare il suo lavoro (in questo caso, un esempio lampante è dato dal fatto che, invece di tradurre "mummy" con "mammina", questo brillante signore ha optato per "mummie" -ora immagina la scena di una bimba che corre per una stazione affollata urlando MUMMIE! MUMMIEEEEE! senza ridere).

Bis auf die letzten 100 Seiten hätte ich diesem Buch sogar noch 5 Sterne gegeben.
Was mich maßlos enttäuscht hat, war die Art und Weise wie die Autorin meint alles aufzulösen. Einige Kritiken vorher las ich "es sei ja so einfach den Mörder selbst herauszufinden". Dem kann ich nur halb zustimmen. Während des Lesens meint man den Mörder zu kennen, denkt sich aber "ach was, das wäre viel zu Simpel" Auf dem Buchrücken steht, wie ungeheuer spannend es doch ist wie die Autorin die vielen Handlungsstränge zusammenführt. Und genau das war mein Argument, warum besagte Person eben NICHT der Mörder sein könnte. Die flache Art und Weise, wie dann auf den letzten 100 Seiten alles irgednwie sinnvoll verstrickt wird (okay ein paar überraschende Wendungen gibt es tatsächlich noch), ist aber einfach nur traurig.
Hinzu kommt, dass von den mehreren Morden die begangen werden, nur ein Mörder wirklich klar festgenommen wird. Der andere bleibt unbekannt, wird lediglich zum Hauptverdächtigen, warum er jetzt aber dann doch der Mörder ist kommt nie raus.
Dieses Buch hätte gut enden können, wenn die Autorin sich vielleicht noch 50 Seiten mehr Zeit gelassen hätte. So erscheint es beim lesen, als wären 550 Seiten Spannung aufgebaut worden und am Ende hatte die AUtorin keine Lust mehr und wollte alles möglich schnell zu Ende bringen.

This is a great old-style mystery where you have a new thought for who-dun-it with every twist and turn mixed with the modern-day ideas of divorce, loneliness, psychology, etc.
The only fault that I had, and I know it is really petty, is the main character and I share the same name and so far the same spinsterhood. (there is also something else, but no spoilers here)

Este libro me ha dejado confundida......es una sensación de ¿còmo diablos la autora pudo arruinar algo que iba tan bien?
La primera mitad no iba nada mal, todo fluía de acuerdo a la historia y no es que fuera lo mas brillante, pero vaya, iba logrando mantenerte interesado en que iba a pasar.....
Pero pasaron las paginas y todo empezó a dar giros y giros sobre lo mismo, hubo un momento en que realmente empece a confundirme bastante porque parecia que estaba leyendo dos libros distintas. Se supone que uno debe quebrarse la cabeza por descubrir al "asesino" pero honestamente creo que ni la autora sabia quien era.....
El final es malisimo, esas últimas 100 paginas donde de alguna manera todo debía solucionarse y las pistas que durante todo el libro estuvieron ahí, encajaran perfectamente para darte un desenlace perfecto....todo eso se fue al carajo. Se nota un final muy abrupto como sacado de la manga, yo no encontré lógica en muchas cosas y solo se centran en resolver un misterio cuando desde el inicio del libro te hablan de 2 historias!, no entiendo nada, enserio estoy confundida.....
