What a powerful story of Tara’s escape from abuse. How real she was in her story to constantly wavering between her family and freedom, between her truth and the narrative they pushed on her.
informative medium-paced

Solid book. Very interesting encounter of the authors life growing up. Crazy mentality on her parents part.

I mean wow, what a challenging life and so many adversities to overcome. I had to keep reminding myself this was a memoir and actually happened to the author. It read like a Kristin Hannah novel, where you couldn’t believe this happened. The reality and depth of emotions the author works through is incomprehensible to me.
Loved that it didn’t feel like a memoir!

I struggle when reading memoirs because reality is so painful and unjust at times, but this book was so compelling—I had to know what happened next. I highly recommend this book to everyone.

A tough read. Well written. Why couldn’t she have stayed with her grandparents?
