There was so much wasted potential here, such a bummer. The narrator audible used for this did more harm than good. His voice made characters and the story blur together. Also, the pacing of the story was off, and some parts were fast paced, others dragged on.

I think I got this book free from Audible but it was pretty good. Seems like the average rating is lower then I would have expected because it's a pretty solid sci-fi dystopia about what would happen if suddenly our "junk" DNA was activated. John Waters reads it and he's fun! I means don't get me wrong it's no Margaret Atwood...yet it is entertaining and I definitely wanted to see how it ended...and did I mention it was free?

The pace felt slow, there were no surprises, I never felt that there was any suspense or action. It could be considered a critique on our current society but even that felt like a very shallow critique.

What a weird fucking book. Swearing requisite in the tradition of the novel itself. The best thing I can say about this book is that it was the sort of slow-moving train wreck you can't look away from. So, y'know, I finished reading it at least ...
Don't get me wrong. This isn't the worst book I've ever read... but I can't really think who the intended audience for this story is, and it certainly is not my cup of tea.

I was really intrigued by this title when I read the synopsis, but struggled to get through it. The narrative was slow and plodding, with a lot of moving parts of which none were particularly engaging or interesting. There were too many characters and too many scenes and chapters where there was no forward momentum for the narrative. I enjoyed John Waters' narration and some of the concepts in this book, but the execution left a lot to be desired.

What, and I say this with all of the fire in my soul, the fuck? I have no idea what this is about and I am over halfway through it.
Let's start with the narration. It's awful. I don't know who John Waters is, but they could have found anybody else to read this book. I can't tell the difference between the characters. He sounds chipper in the way of a late night sales commercial. It's just so very bad. Anything read by John Waters will be avoided by me in future.
Now let's get to this book. I got to chapter 33 before I just gave up. I have no idea what is happening. I don't know who the characters are from moment to moment. I've had to rewind and listen to things over and over so many times because I can't figure out who's talking. Please see my criticism of the narration above.
The characters are boring and gross. The bad guys are boring and gross. Like seriously. How do you rummage around in a dumpster? And the only thing you do is take a bird bath in a sink. Like I know you're running from murderers but jeez Louise dude. They can track you by your smell now
Life is too short to read boring books. I don't even know why I bought this. Maybe it was cheap but yuck.

I wasn't sure how I'd feel about [a:John Waters|17366|John Waters|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1263397316p2/17366.jpg] narrating a non-John Waters story, but I found it perfect. I'm curious the story that led to this pairing, but now I just need more of it in my life. The story is really observant and funny, with compelling characters and a lot of fun twists. I'd definitely read something else by [a:Les Bohem|13761399|Les Bohem|https://s.gr-assets.com/assets/nophoto/user/u_50x66-632230dc9882b4352d753eedf9396530.png].

Did not finish this book - it was quite graphic for my tastes. Barely got through the first chapter and decided I would pass on it.

I loved this. It is perfectly dark and gritty. I struggled to follow all the characters and it was at times difficult to follow the plot, but overall it was well written and great to listen to.
