Madame Bovary is definitely not a book that is beyond criticism. Most of the characters were one-dimensional and I felt that a little bit more of character work was needed especially in the case of Emma, the protagonist. However, I am a little biased because a fallen woman story is my absolute favorite thing to read. I feel that 85% of nineteenth century marriages were like Emma's, we just got one of the worst versions of them in this...

I found the book is gripping though many times I just want to stop reading any further...no matter where I left reading and resumed after long time I always found it easy to relate to the last part.....the flow is easy and gripping...among all the characters I really feel bad for little Berthe....they could think about her a little instead of always thinking of themselves....specially Emma....sorry to say but she was a strange kind of lady....she made me angry but still I wished to go to her made her understand a few things she was doing wrong...I felt sad for her....Overall it's a really nice presentation of how neighbors are like good and nosy both
